“This trust took over the funds of an earlier trust set up by the BCI (BCI Trust). This taking over of the funds as well as their utilisation is being enquired into by the CBI,” CJAR has said. The demand for Mishra’s resignation was also formally raised during a General Council meeting held at the BCI office in August.

Around 9 months ago, ELP persuaded a smallish prop law practice, which was mostly Real Estate and a bit of employment law, to join them. The RE clients were handed over to one the RE partners who had joined ELP along with Sudip Malik and the new partner was dressed up as an employment law expert. Now he has no choice but to integrate into the new AI-led law firm that will emerge soon!

I don't see a problem with the 2024 graduates point, as someone who was taught by one of these professors I can say for sure that they are really great, plus the NIRF ranking still places NLS ahead in the Teaching, Learning & Resources parameter. The problem of the lack of funding for Uni events is something that needs to be addressed for sure and the abuses of the admin as well, but this is something that is common to most of the NLUs in todays time including tier 1s so it can't be be made out to be an exclusive NLS issue. The construction point is at best a temporary teething issue to accommodate the increased batch size, which will sort itself out and won't be an issue. There are issues that must be fixed for sure, the overcrowding and all the housing issues should get alleviated because of the new hostels that will be constructed in the 7 acres of land. This period of NLS can at best be described as a rough patch that is necessary to modernise and make NLS ready for the future with state of the art infra as and when it gets finished being constructed. After that the funding for the events should also return.

"how NLS has degraded over the 4.5 years that I have stayed here on campus now" - Good to see that the old tradition of whinging about falling standards of law school has survived the many other changes sweeping across that institution. I used to crib the same way twenty years ago.

LI's readership represents a very small proportion of the legal community. The people hating on NLSIU are an even smaller group of individuals. Does it really matter what people here think when NLSIU commands a massive reputation outside of LI? Even on LI do you think people would constantly be speaking about NLSIU if they thought the college was absolutely terrible? People generally talk about important things. Some of the people on this platform are undoubtedly paid off by some nebulous anti-NLSIU gang of TLCs, yes I am looking at you NFSU, to spread negativity about NLS. In any case, NLS does deserve criticism as you yourself admit. Just deal with it broski.

Only in a country like India where the academia quality is garbage level will somebody ask this. In all other sensible countries, "I have a PhD, a publication record in good journals, a strong plan for future research, a writing sample of PhD thesis chapter length and a teaching qualification like UK SFHEA - is that close to enough?". Hi. I'd like to pursue PhD Programme at NLS seriously in the next Academic Intake. Had a couple of questions regarding the Duration and Rigour of the Programme before applying:

i. Duration - What exactly is the unofficial duration of the PhD Programme ? I have heard people from 2015 are presenting now while the new PhD Regulations between 2020 to 2025 require it to be completed within 6 years (8 in the case of girls) ? What's the UGC Policy regarding this and how is this being. I'm for sure not going to be completing it in 3 or 4 years considering I am also practicing and can't give that up.

ii. As a practicing advocate, I just want to know whether NLS is flexible or it is quite rigorous to handle both at a time. Of course this will depend upon the Supervisor who is allotted, but how is the Institution's perspective ?

I don't mind doing it for a long period of time, but I just want to know what is the experience of present Ph.D. Scholars at the University and how they are spending years and years for the Programme.

P.S. - I have gone through the earlier thread 1 year back regarding this, but it was too generic and went off on a different tangent than the original topic, hence requesting this latest information now before deciding to apply to NLS or to go with any other local university like Mysore University.

No one is contesting her success – many were part of it – though it is repeatedly framed as "all her" here and then we hear a spiel on "teams" and "teamwork" elsewhere.

There is plenty wrong with the successful too – perhaps look around the world – then ask the question, what is "success" other than status-chasing vanity? Especially among lawyers.

Like, what is it? Asking people to vote on GCR, ensuring everyone in the team votes and likes posts? Dig deeper, and you realise the people that do the best in competition law do not appear on GCR.

The people that really get it – dismiss it – as the "soft law" it actually is in its current condition. So what is success for you? What is this metric you need? Bank account. All kinds of influencers in Dubai surpass us all then.

Spare us the successful woman and first-generation stuff. It's boring.

It's funny you should say this – these past few months I secured my own clients on my own steam. Nothing else gives you confidence – it's not like getting one handed over and faking gratitude – it's earning it and making a relationship on your own and tending to it. I want to see which one of the underlings brings a client. You are structurally screwed in bringing your own clients with her fees, and you cannot undercut her. I remember some folks who even brought their own mandates – how they were scoffed at. Her garden. You're water cans.

Other people also brought mandates and client relationships - so did I. I know what feedback she gave to the client then. The clients talk too. Still talks to me. I also remember when clients whom she deprioritised found comfort in communications with someone else and how she panicked. They still call me. I was scolded for those on several occasions. I also remember her asking to make a list of people with whom I could do a joint BD at some point using my contacts and patronage. I knew then what I was in store for then.

As we parted, I remember her saying, "You should step up in front of clients". It was too late. I was done. To quote a client – "It's just her and some children." Children here means people with no autonomy. Only one person speaks anything of consequence. Rest hand papers and clarify. It is a ridiculous training environment to give anyone senior. Once you get out, empty the crap, and you realise how much you have taken from you. Do not be a bottle carrier all your life - do it on your own.

Being successful in competition itself is limiting. The lack of imagination is writ large in statements like this. What is successful? Working 24x7 and getting sick all the time and being lonely surronded by transactions and transactional people. Spend some good time witg youre bosses people. Figure out if they're really happy or if all this is some form of overcompensation.

At this unique tier1/2 firm where nepotism is not allowed, you can do literally anything except get married to each other. If you still decide to get married then you or your spouse must leave the firm. If you decide to just have a relationship or an affair then no one really stops you.

Basic communication skills and decency lacking! When someone dies, you don’t speak ill of the dead. If someone was using unfair means in an exam, you don’t rub it in like this in a public statement.

The administration is least concerned to be honest. All they care about is organising useless lectures and invite their worthless kins to appease them and share the same on social media. Hardly a couple of professors are actually interested and competent enough to teach their disciplines namely the criminal law and the corporate/trade law professor. The students have had an internal consensus for a while to seek internship and placement opportunities on their own but the administration is creating impediments in this structure as well by enforcing stricter attendance norms and cutting down on crucial interning months. The college was famous for having a relaxed curriculum which helped government exam aspirants but lately nobody has benefitted from the academic calendar overhaul. Gross incompetence on the part of administration.

(Suggestion as an insider) The upcoming batches at rml are doomed for sure. If you are a student writing clat please consider other options before opting for rml, nluo and rgnul have been much better in terms of placement.

The work exposure is damn good for a boutique firm, but the administration has a lot of issues. They lack proper work flow management. ▮▮▮ One of my classmate has worked there for a while and says that people keep quitting the firm because ▮▮▮ apparently they ▮▮▮ put pressure upon the associates to finish the work.

Hi, I just gave my interview at LKS. there was no HR round, she called me and asked about general information. Then had my technical round (For IP team { not patents}). gave on ▮▮▮. Now its ▮▮▮, may i know if anyone has any idea how the process goes? any other round or directly they accept or reject? furthermore, its been 4 days (including weekends) so when I will receive any update?

New to me. Team expectation, not firm policy or in any document. Not informed of this expectation when joining. If I leave the city over the weekend (carrying my laptop of course), please inform the team if you will not be in the city on Saturday/Sunday. No current urgent deadlines and no mention of coming in on Sat/Sun for work (in which case I would come in for work). Reasoning given: it’s good to just be generally available and in the city in case we need you to come in. Feels a bit like corporate overreach? Don’t think I’m obligated so long as work gets done and I’m in office on time on Monday morning. Is this normal in many corp teams? Told of this expectation by an SA2. If it’s a busy period or deadline approaching I understand but otherwise is this normal in many teams?

It’s terrible that a young life has been lost and I sympathise with the parents, but let’s be objective here. The boy was caught using ChatGPT in an exam. The parents are saying that the IITB director had instructed the invigilating professor to harass the boy because of his caste. This really sounds like an emotional reaction from their grief and the parents’ grief should not be weaponised and politicised. Why would someone as senior as the director do something like that? Pick on a random student out of thousands?

The APSC should not make this sad incident about caste. And the criminal case under the SC/ST Act against the professor should be withdrawn. Instead, the conversation should be about whether a suspension is too harsh a punishment. At my law school, the punishment is that you resit the exam next year. That’s all. Maybe the IITs could do that?

Let’s also look at it this way: is it fair if a student uses ChatGPT in an exam while the others don’t? You want to jail a professor for catching him do that and brand him as a caste oppressor?

I am currently A1 in a T1 - transaction team (insanely toxic team - senior screams and taunts all day, escalates for shit reasons and no-one teaches you anything , onlyyy criticism). Everyone kinda says the same for their team. Is there any hope left in law firms ? Are there any good teams/partners left in Bangalore transaction team in T1 ? Please help and share. I really want to have some hope and plan for future.
