Survey on 81 working mother lawyers in India reveals that workplace policies are designed keeping the “ideal male worker” in mind. While litigation practice lacks child care and creche facilities, law firms in particular lack working hour flexibility. Only five of 397 senior advocates in SC are women. 50 per cent of respondents were asked about their marital status in job interviews, and 62 per cent were questioned on whether they have children [Mint]

Judges are sometimes embarrassed to refuse adjournment requests of reputed senior lawyers, and at other time compelled not to refuse because an unprepared senior cannot provide them the necessary assistance on a case. Often judges are overloaded and understaffed, hence wont to grant adjournments [Telegraph India]
