The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has registered a complaint against iPhone and iPad maker Apple for its alleged abuse of dominant position in India.
The CCI took cognizance of a complaint filed by a consumer under section 4 of the Competition Act alleging that Apple, while using its leading market status has confined disposal of the iPhone and iPad devices to few service providers apart from its authorised dealers.
A senior CCI official told the PTI that the complainant had also objected to Apple making its software available to users only from its Apple-branded iStores.
The complaint would be taken up for hearing this week.
iPhone’s latest version in India is available through Aircel and Bharti Airtel currently while the iPad is sold and serviced at Apple stores only, reported the Times of India.
