Six armymen will serve a life-imprisonment term for having killed three innocent persons near the Line of Control (LOC) in 2010, reported The Hindu, was confirmed by the Army’s Northern Command GOC.
The Indian army court martialed the two officers and four non-officer soldiers for killing the three guirellas at Machil near the LOC, after a police investigation revealed that the murdered individuals, who were misled into the territory on the pretext of being provided jobs, were not militants but civilian locals of Nadihal Rafiabad of Baramulla district.
Colonel Dinesh Pathania, Captain Upendra, Havildar Devendra Kumar, Lance Naik Lakhmi, Lance Naik Arun Kumar and rifleman Abbas Hussain are the six officers awarded the life term in the court martial, according to a confirmation from the Army’s Northern Command to The Hindu.
The court martial’s verdict is from December 2013 but was unconfirmed till now because of procedural reasons.

Thank you for your comment.
We are not referring to the technical army "officer" term in the headline, but are simply clubbing all of the army's employees under the term, in the style of news headlines. The story mentions more details.
Best wishes,
Prachi
Not too sure, if journalism gives the license to use the word this wrongly.
if there are any precedents where this has been used (similarly) elsewhere in the journalistic world, a link would enlighten many bemused readers like me.
Please, stop these images in Impact fonts. They look like memes. You are not LiveLaw.
You'd rather change the title and content to state '6 army officials including 2 officers'
This is bad reporting and bad usage of english.
By incorrectly quoting this in the news article, you are maligning the officer cadre as this would be a historic case if 6 officers get court martialed for 1 crime.
The comment section is pointing to a glaring mistake. You should not sit on it. Even in leading newspapers, they have mentioned that 2 officers out of 6 army-men.
News are not supposed to confuse people, are they?
Still not good enough, mate.
"6 army officers & soldiers to be jailed for life for non-militant homicide"
Are we trying to compete with the likes of timesofindia in making catchy headlines?
Anyway 'murder' would be a better word here. I dont think anyone would imagine the killing of a terrorist as 'murder' so the meaning is quite clear. '"Non-militant homicide" is just ... bad usage.
