From 3 to 4 crime spot visits per day to 80. That's the kind of explosion of demand for forensic investigators are seeing due to new laws effective from 1 July 2024. This is just the start. The biggest beneficiary is the NFSU. With a recent funding of ₹2254 crores, the entire criminal justice in the country system is being transformed. Talking of placements, those graduating from NFSU will have jobs lined up for them both in the government and corporate sectors.

The domains may share such a relationship while at work. That too between criminal lawyers and forensic people only. Same relationship is also shared arguably between a medical specialist in post-mortem examination and criminal lawyers including prosecutors. However, the question is how does this make a law grad from NFSU more employable? They won't be required to do the job of the forensic expert, regardless of whether they might have had a separate elective paper or two in related fields. Any recruiter including the government will employ forensic grads/masters/PhDs for such roles. Hence setting aside the rhetoric, can you please illustrate how do the new Acts make NFSU law grads more employable? Of course, if someone has got both a forensic masters degree and law degree, then it will be better for their career, but that has always been the case for dual degree holders.

That's why NFSU has the following schools covering medico-legal studies, forensic pharmacy, forensic engineering, behavioral forensics, etc. The new laws specifically connect forensic sciences and law. It is far beyond merely being interdisciplinary subjects. Now these domains need to connect (by law). Forensics in the NFSU context doesn't just mean the usual blood sample, and post-mortem but also digital and cyber forensics, corporate and financial forensics, and fraud investigation. It seamlessly connects the upstream and the downstream. These are the specializations available for the two 5-year integrated law programs in Gandhinagar and Delhi. These have been designed factoring in emerging demand from the industry who are keen to grow their legal practices spanning forensic and integrity services. They are keeping a watch on how the government is prioritizing this, and they will shape their services accordingly. Graduates from these programs will have many more options and pathways in addition to "traditional" legal jobs. None of what is happening is happening by accident.
