Watch older horror movies. The Omen. Ring. There's one recent movie about people dying on a video call, a psychological thriller, best thing I've seen. There's an Agatha Christie series, and then there were none 2015 on yt, watch it. It's really good.
This year, I saw Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer and Barbie in the theatre. KOTFM was brilliant. Fantastic direction and acting. I found Oppenheimer meh tbh. Didnβt like Barbie and found the constant feminist rhetoric annoying.
What I also like about KOTFM is that it educates about racism and injustice without being woke. No token diversity casting, all ethnic actors are relevant to the plot.
I missed Past Lives in the theatre. Itβs got great reviews. Heard itβs on Apple TV now.
Please watch the Railway Men (currently 8.5/10 in IMDb) and educate yourself about the Bhopal gas leak. Rahul Gandhi must answer on why the Congress let off Warren Anderson.
The polarised reaction to The Archies can be seen from the voting pattern on LI and also on IMBD (either 1/10 or 10/10, nothing in between). It's obvious that the movie has become collateral damage in the culture wars. Those on the left are loving the movie because of its liberal values, excellent acting by a young cast, pro-environment message and analogy with Aarey forest, and liberal credentials of Zoya Akhtar and SRK. The movie spreads the universal message of love, harmony and friendship, which are dear to the left. Those on the right are trashing it because of so-called nepotism, the support to the Aarey forest protest by Aditya Thackeray and liberals, and also because of Zoya Akhtar is the daughter of LW intellectual and Modi critic Javed Akhtar and SRK is close to the Gandhis and Mamata.
Now all movie ratings and review have become politicaises. Bhakts stan Animal for promoting aggressive masculinity and Railway Men because it has pro-Modi actor Madhavan and makes the Congress look bad. Libs stan Archies even though itβs really cringe with crap songs. Like WTF have Archie and Veronica in India speaking Hindi??? Either just watch Riverdale or have an Indian teen movie with Indian character names.
So sick of politicised movie ratings and reviews. π‘
Watched the Bear. Awesome series if you're into dramedys like Succession, Barry etc. Trigger warning if you aren't comfortable with watching shows depicting stressful work environments.
