Will the student body and SJA be able to reclaim their freedom or will it go the CNLU way? Looking at the present SJA, CNLU way it is, yayyyy.
Don't hyperventilate. Instead, go and study and maybe attend a few classes for a change. Nobody who cares about their academics has a problem with the students being asked to come back for a viva after one month of internship and before the end-semester exams start.
There are many many students who scheduled their internships for the month of November itself due to the academic calendar. What is your sage advice for all of these people, please do tell?
The academic calendar clearly mentioned that the vacation would be till November 18. If students have despite arranged for internships till November 30, then they have done so at their own risk. If they believe that internships should be prioritized over academic commitments, then they shouldn't have any problem with interning and letting go of the ten marks earmarked for viva.
We are not supposed to have classes in the month of november. That time is for remedial classes which is mostly if you lack a few percentage attendence so most people will naturally use it for internships.
If people 'naturally' uses non-vacation time for internships, then that's on them. University is free to hold any activity including evaluation during that period. Even had the grand viva did not take place, many faculty would have held individual vivas or presentations during that period only.
No they are absolutely not free to do that? The point of getting an academic calendar is that professors cannot schedule vivas whenever they want even after being provided a clear timeline. Or does adhering to provided deadlines only apply to students and not to the faculty according to you?
This year's academic calender itself is complete farce. With these weird mid-month dates, it was very hard for many people to secure good internships as most firms prefer full months. Surprised to see so many insanely pro-admin voices in LI, maybe because they could never say such things in the campus group with their real IDs.
Then why didn't you bring up the matter when the calendar was declared in the beginning of the sem? The reason is that you have taken for granted the fact that regardless of whether it's vacation or not, you can choose not to be at the university without any consequence. We are not pro-admin, just people who actually work hard and care about academics as well as internships, unlike you. And yes, we fear bullying by your kind who are the majority freeloaders, although we have voiced our concern plenty of times in the past. It is because of people like you that academic discipline is a joke in this university anymore.
"Unlike you" Sorry but a lot of assumptions there. Also, how would something like locking the terrace help to bolster academic discipline? Or holding all vivas together?
"Unlike you" comes from the arguments that you are making. Locking the terrace helps prevent students drinking, smoking, using drugs and making out there and includes preventing other accidents, which can and has happened in more than one university. All of which students have been known to do. In either case, if you didn't want a locked terrace, then you could protested for that and not to save yourselves from punishment after breaking the lock. Your attempts to justify an illegal action is astonishing and juvenile. As for holding vivas together, that's because holding them separately and at different times has caused students to abuse the process over the years pro ultra max. Half of you don't turn up, then beg the VC to take it later, using the extra time to get unfair advantage over those who actually work hard and adhere to deadlines and behave professionally. All the faculty too have already said that. As for answering multiple questions from different subjects one after another, that's actually a test of your concepts and preparation. You may try asking people who are working how they take care of different clients and lawsuits at the same time. Academic discipline involves adhering to timelines, not plagiarising, not seeking multiple extensions, give multiple exams, attending classes regularly, working hard and not bend every rule for the sake of personal convenience or who can bargain better with the admin. It's a package deal. Now you have once again managed to arm-twist the VC who can be easily blackmailed by the students given his own irregular actions, so you can be happy for that. On the other hand, alumni, recruiters and faculty all are of the opinion that the academic standards of this university have plummeted now and these actions from your side only vindicate such perception and cause further damage to institutional reputation. Not that the weak and apathetic admin don't add to that, but you people are equally culpable.
Plenty of firms give mid month internships. Your inability to get those should make you reflect upon your CV.
Got one for myself, but some T1/T2 firms straight up refused to entertain individual applications because of such weird mid-month dates.
They wouldn't have had they found the CVs to be good enough. Every T1 firm is allowing several students to intern according to that schedule, so it's not a firm problem, it's a competence problem.
The vivas are taking place after the vacations, the dates for which had been announced in the beginning of the semester. If a student has chosen to intern 15 days extra, then that's on them. If they want to prioritize internships over their academic commitments, then they can continue to intern and give up the viva marks. Simple.
SJAs in NUJS have been pro admin since 2019 onwards, i.e. when the current VC came. Last 3 SJAs were even more admin friendly and preferred coordination over confrontation. They cared about genuine student issues like academics and infrastructure. Current sja is just inexperienced bunch of people. GB is worse. In education institutions, you shouldn't have all the freedoms, you don't have them even in residential societies where lights are closed after 11pm and terrace is always closed except. Good that VC and registrar are working to maintain sanctity of Institutes.
The current nujs GB is full of crybabies, who want the waste way out of everything. The VC is trying his best but there's only so much you can do with 24 year old brats who are deluded to the point of no help.
Atleast cnlu has better vc now and reforms has been started in unis Admin and other policies by Faizu
Okay. Get your VC to draft your CV too. And recruit at least one or two decent faculty while you are at it.
Too many pro-admin comments here. Guess they're all done by a couple of people at most, taking full advantage of the anonymity provided by Legally India.
Just like you are taking advantage of the same anonymity to push personal agendas here instead of addressing them internally within the university.
Certainly not personal agenda when it involves the interests of all batches. Otherwise, so many people from both hostels wouldn't have signed up the representation. How are we taking advantage of any anonymity when all of us have openly voiced our concerns through appropriate channels?
Your concerns also stem from selfish interests. Basically all you care for is that things should happen exactly the way you want it to be and for all your actions to have no consequences.
Interests of all batches do not lie in compromising every single bit of academic standard of the university, as you people have been trying to do for long. Don't even get me started on what you do for easy grades, attendances and extensions.
Okay, what's the nexus between academic standards and 1984-style restrictions like explanations for entering campus after 11, suddenly locking terrace, moral policing by guards and teachers alike and the list goes on. Mere deflection from actual steps that can be taken to rectify deteriorating "academic rigor." Not even a single constructive suggestion.
Your definition of interest of all batch is not to have to study, get grades as freebies, multiple shots at clearing exams, and a high paying job regardless of what you do in five years. That's not really in the interest of the institution and even the students in the long term.
Whatever, that's simply not what I said but maybe you think that way. Can't help it!
Why go for LI rules? Write an open letter on your social media profile and share the link here. I don't think Kian or the mods will object to that.
@Mods: Several comments made in this thread are not showing. As in, not even as yet to be moderated or marked trollish and hence not published. I have noticed from personal experience that this is happening mostly when I am trying to respond to or support a comment made by someone who's logged in with a user ID. Like NUJS Batch 2025 here.
There is no preference accorded to usernames but the comments not published in this thread were all trollish or personal attacks. Please express yourself more diplomatically and more on points of facts.
I didn't mean that they were being marked trollish and not published. They aren't simply visible at all. As in there is no indication that the comment had even been submitted.
