For me, the most incredible aspect of the story is how much influence Jai Sai Deepak wields in the RSS ecosystem. A person known more for tweeting than legal eminence. As rightly pointed out by many on social media, it was his book "India that is Bharat", along with many speeches calling for India to be renamed to Bharat, which lit the spark.
Though I am a BJP/Modi supporter, I oppose this move. My support for the BJP/Modi is based on development, reforms and opposition to socialism. Not such stunts. You will alienate the middle class through this. I am also disappointed to see Amitabh Bachchan support the move.
If after the last ten years, you still think that BJP is bringing development and reforms that this country actually needs, then you should have no problem with this change either.
I do not get one thing, how is the concept of Bharat nationalistic in this day and age? Which piece of history has ever proven that the current geographical landmass that India represents has ever been considered to be one country i.e. Bharat before the Brits had come? There used to be multiple sovereign kingdoms and not a single nation-state even during the Mughal period, let alone before. If not, then we became a country/nation as India and not as Bharat. There have been references in the epics to a landmass that may stretch from the Himalayas to Kanyakumarika, but that was never about a single nation, nor was it only limited to the current geographical boundaries of India.
The voting pattern on this thread suggests that there are lot of pro-Modi people on LI. Thatβs good, but I would prefer that you guys push for economic reforms instead.
Not only here but all over Bharat. I would suggest you to first go and have understanding of economy before lecturing here. There are dynamic economic reforms being implemented under Modi govt and there will be more in times to come.
Itβs India fyi. Plus a constitutional amendment and ratification by the states is required for India to be renamed to Bharat. Sanghi educate yourself first.
So basically after a decade, all you have to show is promises for when things will change for the better in future? Not a single promise that was part of the BJP manifesto in 2014 has actually taken place other than irrelevant things like Rammandir. Apparently, nobody ranging from actual economists to RBI people to investors understand this "dynamic economy" that is being promised. Just shifting of goalposts from 2019 to 2022 to 2047 already.

Another way to waste taxpayer money on a non-issue.
Votes ke liye kuchh bhi...
Opposition adopted the name INDIA, so change the name of the country!?! Lol.
Truth stranger than fiction.
Please lets vote this useless establishment out!
Tomorrow if the opposition changes its name to INDIA-Bharat, will they then change the name again?
Desh ka naam hai ki kapde hain? What useless folks!

Modiji before 2024 election: Rename India to Bharat.
phir wohi Nationalism card
But genuinely I want to understand the reasoning of the name change.
Why name is changed? What essense it holds? I need to know being a lawyer myself but not up to date with history or stuff.
