Coming to your point , a NLU cannot have a lateral mid-entry and yes it will be at the end of the day 3 years. BUT - your statement also makes the point of 'attempting clat' and I feel its perfectly okay for anyone to say he/she had a 2.5 year gap (not 3) , if one is attempting clat in december and not in May. Why add the extra 5-6 months when you didn't get them. It will anyway be translated to a 3 year gap(cause even if you are giving clat in 23 , its clat 2024) , but nevertheless the efforts are missing 5 months if any. Even the consortium acknowledges this and that's why the results are out by december only. Cheer up and appreciate.

I don’t see why not? As per my juniors told me that clat happens around December now(6 months prior to May). So if a person , even if he is giving clat 2024 , he is giving it 5-6 months early. I mean the class commencement is still late in May or august infact - but why will anyone in the right state of mind add a 3 year drop only for ‘attempting clat’ when the same is being done in ‘2.5 years’?

BTW OP- how come u only dropped 2.5 years for the clat exam (not joining mind you) when u didn’t even give clat this year. Since in your time it used to happen in May only.

I disagree with you. For the 2028 batch or for anyone in 2029 batch , it’s infact 2.5 years because clat happened in December. So if one says they they took a 2.5 year drop for clat , that’s understandable(provided you graduate around 202 or 2021 from high school). Yet still one will be dropping 3 years because the academic session will start later anyway. But well , 2.5 years for clat makes sense.

Was going through the comments and it's appalling how many people are advising the lad to take a drop or waste his first year aspiring for NLS....you people are the worst, this positivity is so toxic.

If you land a T1 college, take it. Don't be naive and give into the whole rankings narrative. Yes NLS has a legacy, but the impact of that legacy on its current students is vague and doesn't make a substantial difference when it comes placements.

Don't take a gap year, join NUJS, study well and get over this obsession of NLS...it will bring you no good.

Congratulations on getting NUJS. You must have worked hard for it.

My advise would be to not go for a drop, as you mentioned yourself the two places have the same placements, the difference being "reputation".

NLS has increased it's batch size all the way to 240 this year, while it's still around 120 for NUJS...that's a 100 students less, which means less competition for corporate jobs.

It remains to be seen whether NLS will continue to get the same percentage of placements with such a massive batch size, it's unheard of...a lot of kids in nls might not get placed or will have to settle for T2/T3.

Nujs does have its problems but it's a good place to study law, and you are pretty much guaranteed a good placement, something which is difficult to say about NLS as of yet.

Now coming to your 'problem', you are a ▮▮▮ and very naive to even consider dropping a college like NUJS and take a DROP year for a chance at NLS. I can understand the dream of NLS but it would be beyond idiotic to not take admission in nujs. So please forget about NLS and imagine your next 5 years in Kolkata!!

You're an ▮▮▮. NUJS is as good as any NLU. Infact, in recent times they are doing far better if we accumulate all the laurels in recent years. One more thing, do you want to do law or NLS for the rest of your life? Don't be like one of those people for whom their whole life is their college or any college for that matter. I knew, this was prevalent in IITs but sadly, now I see this bs here. Focus on law, focus on building your legal career, focus on contributing towards the legal field. Don't waste another year on CLAT. I understand, now you're super immature as you're young but give NUJS a year or two and then you will realise how insignificant CLAT and NLS is and how many more things you have to do. As I said NUJS is as good at any college and it won't be an impediment in any way for you to achieve laurels in the legal field.

You can make them understand about the drop year thingy after you get a good rank in clat. Don’t tell it now. Don’t let anyone stop you from achieving your dreams. Go for NLS. And also drops are not that big of a deal.

Drops won’t matter , your institution will. But that being said Nujs is still good

I have usually seen people taking drop year(s) when they are not in top 3. You are already in top 3. But no tension dost. If you want to take it go for it. Bas make sure you prep after putting all your attention in academics. NLS is not the same anymore that ‘ANYONE’ can get it after sitting for clat. It’s tough. It has also increased its batch strength so keep that in mind. But if you think tu Kar payega, don’t let anyone stop you.

TRY to get a rank within 1-20 (I know it’s very very difficult to throw statements like these - but you will realise that your parents won’t stop you after you get ABS - Aditya Birla scholarship)

Don’t tell your parents repeatedly about taking drop. Trust me I have been there , they ofc won’t like it. Focus on your academics at Nujs and keep on preparing for clat(no one should know). If you have made into Nujs this year , you will definitely have a seat at NLS next year. There was a person I know who dropped Nujs for NLS but she didn’t even tell anyone about it. Some people who made it didn’t go cause they were happy at Nujs itself. Focus on ur academics at Nujs and you can prep for clat alongside.

POINT TO CONSIDER- NLS and NUJS don’t have major differences in placements. In fact the latter has given better placement turnouts for the past few years (no cap). The tag has a difference(although not substantial).

Kids these days aren't grateful with anything, they always want more and more.

Take that drop year and throw away this opportunity down the drain if that's what you want to do. I am tired of humble bragging.

My advice is to enrol at NUJS but give CLAT a second time. Many people at NUJS do so and many have made it into NLSIU on their second attempt.

In you first year at NUJS, just try to get a passing grade and focus all your energies instead on CLAT. Should you not make it to NLSIU, work hard for the remaining 4 years and focus on getting a good GPA and placement.

Kindly don't act like so immaturely with drop years, they can be tiresome and it's never guaranteed that you will see succes st the end of it. For all we know you might get something lower than nujs next time around, what would you do then? Take another drop year?

I have friends at nujs, and they seem pretty pleased with their decision to join NUJS. Yes there are the usual complaints about the mid tier campus but other than that nujs is a solid place to study law at.

NLS vs NALSAR/NUJS/NLUD debate is pretty pointless unless you are someone who is looking to go abroad for further education.

Try to reach out to some NUJS folks, they can give you a better insight on the place.

Ok so this is from my personal experience, a friend and I had written clat 2022 and ended up with a somewhat similar rank, in the 2 allotment list itself both of us got NLUJ. At the end I ended going to NLUJ while my friend took a gap year, this time he ended up getting NALSAR so obviously he took it, but the problem was that this NALSAR called it’s applicants with short notice to Hyderabad and he couldn’t make it, so he ended up losing his NALSAR seat, now he’s got NUJS ( speculative, cause it was his next preference after NALSAR) which is arguably as good as NLUJ. So now he’s one year behind, doubting whether he’s even cut out to be lawyer( even after getting such a good rank) and is considering to take another gap year

1. Join NUJS!

2. Let it sink in that you've not been able to get a top rank, which is totally fine.

3. Socialise with your batchmates, enjoy your life, and give yourself a sweet pie after putting in so much effort.

4. Ask yourself, "What are you studying for?" To get a nice job? For earning big and marrying pretty? Securing your future?

Or to show off in front of society that you studied at NLS? (Many of whom don't even know anything beyond IIT and AIMS). I've seen people skip NLS just because the trimester system seems excessively life-sucking. Enjoy your life dude. Ek saal barbaad karke kya milega? (Even mathematically, you would have to do one more year of corp to earn the same amount) Just doesn't make sense. Peace✌️

Appeared for CLAT 2023, was alloted NUJS. Gave it my all during the preparations in order to secure a place in NLS, worst case scenario NALSAR.

But here i am with NUJS, i keep opting for float but as of late i don't see any chances of the allotment changing.

Part of me wants to take a drop and try again for NLS, what should I do?

I know NUJS and NLS have the same placements but nujs lacks the reputation that NLS has.

My parents are supportive but they don't want me take a drop year, but i don't want to end up with regrets after joining nujs.

What should I do?
