I WOULD HAVE TOTALLY CONCURRED WITH YOUR 2.5 YEAR DROP THING IF YOU WOULD HAVE GIVEN CLAT THIS DECEMBER (because well and lets be honest , that mathematically and officially correct even though the gap will be of 3 years only on the joining date , this too depends on the month u graduated school). I mean if you were BO'2028 , I would have totally agreed. But you are not
Coming to your point , a NLU cannot have a lateral mid-entry and yes it will be at the end of the day 3 years. BUT - your statement also makes the point of 'attempting clat' and I feel its perfectly okay for anyone to say he/she had a 2.5 year gap (not 3) , if one is attempting clat in december and not in May. Why add the extra 5-6 months when you didn't get them. It will anyway be translated to a 3 year gap(cause even if you are giving clat in 23 , its clat 2024) , but nevertheless the efforts are missing 5 months if any. Even the consortium acknowledges this and that's why the results are out by december only. Cheer up and appreciate.
BTW OP- how come u only dropped 2.5 years for the clat exam (not joining mind you) when u didn’t even give clat this year. Since in your time it used to happen in May only.
If you land a T1 college, take it. Don't be naive and give into the whole rankings narrative. Yes NLS has a legacy, but the impact of that legacy on its current students is vague and doesn't make a substantial difference when it comes placements.
Don't take a gap year, join NUJS, study well and get over this obsession of NLS...it will bring you no good.
My advise would be to not go for a drop, as you mentioned yourself the two places have the same placements, the difference being "reputation".
NLS has increased it's batch size all the way to 240 this year, while it's still around 120 for NUJS...that's a 100 students less, which means less competition for corporate jobs.
It remains to be seen whether NLS will continue to get the same percentage of placements with such a massive batch size, it's unheard of...a lot of kids in nls might not get placed or will have to settle for T2/T3.
Nujs does have its problems but it's a good place to study law, and you are pretty much guaranteed a good placement, something which is difficult to say about NLS as of yet.
Now coming to your 'problem', you are a ▮▮▮ and very naive to even consider dropping a college like NUJS and take a DROP year for a chance at NLS. I can understand the dream of NLS but it would be beyond idiotic to not take admission in nujs. So please forget about NLS and imagine your next 5 years in Kolkata!!
But that being said , Nujs is superb. Like too good. So don’t regret if you don’t make it ya?
Still wanna go to nlsiu? No problem you can give it once more cause well NLS is still number one. But soch keh- Nujs is still nice.
Drops won’t matter , your institution will. But that being said Nujs is still good
TRY to get a rank within 1-20 (I know it’s very very difficult to throw statements like these - but you will realise that your parents won’t stop you after you get ABS - Aditya Birla scholarship)
POINT TO CONSIDER- NLS and NUJS don’t have major differences in placements. In fact the latter has given better placement turnouts for the past few years (no cap). The tag has a difference(although not substantial).
Do you know the number of people who would kill for that seat?
Take that drop year and throw away this opportunity down the drain if that's what you want to do. I am tired of humble bragging.
In you first year at NUJS, just try to get a passing grade and focus all your energies instead on CLAT. Should you not make it to NLSIU, work hard for the remaining 4 years and focus on getting a good GPA and placement.
I have friends at nujs, and they seem pretty pleased with their decision to join NUJS. Yes there are the usual complaints about the mid tier campus but other than that nujs is a solid place to study law at.
NLS vs NALSAR/NUJS/NLUD debate is pretty pointless unless you are someone who is looking to go abroad for further education.
Try to reach out to some NUJS folks, they can give you a better insight on the place.
2. Let it sink in that you've not been able to get a top rank, which is totally fine.
3. Socialise with your batchmates, enjoy your life, and give yourself a sweet pie after putting in so much effort.
4. Ask yourself, "What are you studying for?" To get a nice job? For earning big and marrying pretty? Securing your future?
Or to show off in front of society that you studied at NLS? (Many of whom don't even know anything beyond IIT and AIMS). I've seen people skip NLS just because the trimester system seems excessively life-sucking. Enjoy your life dude. Ek saal barbaad karke kya milega? (Even mathematically, you would have to do one more year of corp to earn the same amount) Just doesn't make sense. Peace✌️
But here i am with NUJS, i keep opting for float but as of late i don't see any chances of the allotment changing.
Part of me wants to take a drop and try again for NLS, what should I do?
I know NUJS and NLS have the same placements but nujs lacks the reputation that NLS has.
My parents are supportive but they don't want me take a drop year, but i don't want to end up with regrets after joining nujs.
What should I do?
