Firstly, we are not an organisation, just a group of five associates across levels with the most experienced of us having been in the profession for 5 years. All of us work at the supposed tier-1’s, hence the need for anonymity.
Our plan, atleast till now, was to send the representation to the BCI in written letter format as well as electronically. We would not send it anonymously, it would have our and the names of lawyers who sign the petition annexed to it. However, apart from the letter going to the BCI, anonymity of all lawyers who sign this would be maintained.
As far as the need for the letter is concerned, we just felt that in a politically charged atmosphere, it is very easy for law firm founders to push a narrative that the opening up of the indian law firm market would seriously hurt Indian lawyers in the long run. This could easily snowball into becoming a political issue and hence get stayed for years to come. Having seen good initiatives get blocked by organisations for years in India, we generally thought to make a small effort for something we truly believe will help all of us.
Lastly, as mentioned, there is no “organisation here” and therefore we are 10000% open to suggestion. Someone in the comments suggested there could be a more transparent way to do this. If anyone has any suggestions, we are more than willing to make those changes. The entire point after all, is to help all of us.
Don't you think it should be common courtesy for the host to introduce himself formally before asking for your names? The list of applicants would be quite a sensitive document, which would reflect one's stance against the Indian firms they're employed under.
There should be a more transparent way of doing this!
Also, what do you hope to achieve? And do you think the BCI will care about your letter? (Or whether the BCI even cares about anything at all? ;) Seriously though, what would be the ideal outcome here?
Not trying to denigrate or derail your initiative, which seems like a good idea, but since you're asking people to sign an anonymous petition, it's fair to ask these questions.
