Hi,

How do to be mothers or mother's juggle their law firm lives? Specially when the kid is still young. Assuming that as a concept the mother would want to have more time with the child. How do late night deliverables and urgent deadlines work out.
Are the firms in India sensitive to this aspect or the de facto choice is dropping out of work for a year if you want to enjoy the time with the offspring with a more breathing space.
Thanks!
Law firms tbh can't just allow you to have time needed to raise an infant, and even if one wishes they would be in a big unhealthy mental state of body. Firms should give option of leaving the job for full 1-2 years to new mothers and allowing to rejoin at same position post the period. Can be a big fuss if anyone were to have more than 3 kids, not moral preaching but very difficult to be considerate for say a person who has 4 kids over 15 years, now I know a very rare case for urban families but something which has to be thought over too. The question in general apart from even law firms needs a lot of deliberation in terms of policies and regulations and internal org rules, so far it's very undercooked area and one which definately is a big headache for young mothers, most of whom end up leaving jobs too.
Law Firms and In House roles are more friendly to women(mother's) than traditional Litigation. You get paid maternity leave, firms have initiatives to keep you on rolls.

More than that, if you look at hiring pattern across firms - from 2017 to 21; firms have hired far more women than men (65:35). And most women stay in the firms even after pregnancy.
Thanks for bringing this up. It is a question I have often wondered about and the answer is staring at us when you see the gender split at the partner level at leading law firms in India. Try and filter that down further by seeing how many women partners actually have kids and the number is even smaller. There is a lot more Indian firms can do to support new mothers, they have got to stop with the lip service.

Anyone here is a new mother or knows someone in their team that is at partner level? Would love to hear from them on how they've figured it out.
