NLSIU #1 yet again. NUJS #2 and NLIU #3. However, NALSAR, NLUD, NLUJ and JGLS did not participate, so this ranking is not reliable unlike NIRF, where everyone participates.

"Over the past year, we have built and deployed an online learning management system that ensures structured and reviewed syllabi for every course and easy availability of reading materials. NLSIU’s Elective Course programme has integrated external and internal faculty offering new and intellectually-challenging courses. As many as 55 external/ guest faculty have offered elective courses in the academic year 2020-21. We adopted new academic and examination regulations for three major programmes to streamline academic processes and strengthen our ability to deliver high-quality programmes at scale. The examination process was facilitated via the learning management system and remotely proctored. Evaluations were done online and special arrangements were made to make the examination process accessible to differently-abled students. Students with limited or poor access to the internet and other related facilities were given financial subsidies. All activities related to campus hiring were shifted online due to the pandemic. While a more flexible approach in carrying out placements had to be adopted to cater to this shift, the hiring trends have remained consistent with previous years. There was no dip in hiring.”
Prof. N.K Chakrabarti Vice-chancellor, West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata Quote:
"The first thing we made sure of when the lockdown was announced was to complete the examination of final-year students and bring out their results by June end since the placement process for the batch had already been completed and they were supposed to join work by the first week of July. This year, we had 100 per cent placement as all 90 students, out of a batch of 125, who applied, got recruited by top law firms. From the beginning, we ensured online access to our library by making-400 odd e-books of law and social sciences available to students. We also provided students with counselling sessions. Special virtual lectures by experts on contemporary law, artificial intelligence and corporate law were incorporated into the schedule to help students, come placement time. Since organising physical mock courts and preparing students for arguments and court procedures are integral parts of a law course, teachers organised virtual court rooms and prepared students. NUJS also brought a 100-odd final-year students—residents of remote areas who had been facing connectivity issues—back on campus to help them through the placement interviews within the campus environment while maintaining Covid-19 protocol. Moreover, NUJS reduced its fee structure by 30 per cent, keeping in mind the difficult pandemic situation.”
They have never participated in these rankings, from prior to 2014 at least. Why to waste money being part of every scammy ranking possible when there's other things to focus on?
Because NALSAR and NLUD have taken a policy decision to only participate in NIRF, which is the only ranking that matters and the only official government ranking that we have.
This cannot be considered as a success of NUJS and NLIU. There are 3 NLUs which are ahead of these two in NIRF (Nalsar, NLUD and NLUJ), so how can we take these rankings seriously?
Since India Today has separated public and private law schools, I expect Jindal will take part from next year because they will be #1 in private law schools. This is the same reason they participate in the Careers 360 ranking, since it separates public and private/
So we're all going to just pretend that India Today rankings are not paid advertisements and that they add unis like NLS only for seeming credible? Ok then.
The fact that there is a big Twitter fight going on over Hindu overtaking Stephens in the India Today ranking means the ranking is taken pretty seriously among the public. But for law everyone must follow NIRF.
All these rankings are useless. Mostly meant to soothe insecure minds and egos. People who want to go to NLSIU know that it's good, the QS or NIRF ranking is not going to change that.
Congress spokesman and NUJS alum Jaiveer Shergill is boasting about NUJS getting 2nd rank in the ranking on Twitter. 🙄 I don't want to make it political, but this is another example of the kind of misleading information Congress spokesmen are tweeting day and night. This ranking did NOT consider NALSAR, NLUD and NLUJ, all of which are ahead of NUJS in NIRF. How can NUJS alumni take credit for this?? 😡
Chill bro, you don't need to feel sorry NUJS. Just cause one of the alumni is celebrating doesn't mean NUJS students or other alumni are celebrating. I didn't see any NUJS student celebrating.
You don't discredit the QS rankings or other world rankings just cause some of the Indian university did not participate. Similarly not all law schools participate in NIRF, that doesn't mean NIRF rankings should be discredited. (Not saying that NIRF ranking is correct and has no issues but still it more or less gives an idea about top 10-20 university in the country not necessarily in correct order)
Most of the universities donot participate, beacause they know their actual worth. Nirf as well as India today ranking are imperfect. But according to CLAT preferences, NUJS is undoubtedly favourite among aspirants for highest ROZGAR
