My Honest advice if I were you -

1. DO NOT, I repeat do not think of doing 5 year law at all, it will be a career suicide at your age.
2. If you consider pursuing three year llb, either go for Top colleges like NLS and SLS or consider foreign colleges, sub par three year colleges like Jindal and GLC won't get you anywehre since 3 year LLB is on much lower footing as compared to 5 year law anyway, if you do not have very good connections which can get
3. Company Secretary course will take anywhere from 3-5 years of your life from this point if you start now, excluding the mandatory traineeship, and it not even a sureity that you will clear the exam in the first go.

Real Advice -
being in the profession for 3-ish years I can safely tell you this profession is not here for stay. 5-10 years down the line, almost all work would be automated and AI will eat up most law firm and in-house jobs, therefore having a strong passion itself would not suffice for you to succeed . If you want to have a stable trajectory,either you will have to pivot in some very niche field like AI/fintech, capital markets or legal marketing, or might as well look for alternative career options like finance, tech or marketing.

This firm is a well regarded boutique practice. Instead of fabricating job offers or posting unverified claims, I would encourage everyone to focus on their own work. Legally India is clearly moderating comments that are meant to troll, are defamatory or designed to provoke. Anonymous threads rarely reflect the reality.

If the world‘s most respected magazine says that she and Arundhati Katju were responsible for winning the case, then I will absolutely believe it. Also, where is this theory coming from that certain very senior people were responsible for the case? In most cases, it is the junior lawyers, who do the heavy lifting and seniors who take the credit.

There is a popular YouTube podcast channel run by a senior Bengali journalist (former editor of Anandabazar Patrika). He said that this viral video of Menaka shouting at Raju was singularly responsible for Mamata nominating Menaka.

He termed this as a knee jerk choice by Mamata, because Menaka hasn’t really been very successful defending the TMC. She has lost in the Cal HC, SC etc repeatedly.

He doesn’t say it openly, but there is a veiled insinuation that Menaka’s outburst against Raju and the virality of the video was not as spontaneous as it looked.

These guys are so loyal to the TMC and do their bidding, yet Mamata does not give a penny to NUJS. She has allocated thousands of crores for Madrasa development in the recent state budget. Nothing for NUJS.

Those who will reach great heights are risk-takers who are brave enough to choose careers other than working as slaves for CAM and SAM. That’s what all these achievers have done. Unfortunately, very few such people exist in the other law schools, because they suffer from a typical middle class mindset: grades and jobs. Adding to the problem is that they have very poor quality faculty, who do not inspire them enough to pursue challenging and intellectually stimulating careers.

That's not a good example since the third rail is very useful, thats the one providing energy and the other 2 are just for structural support, what even was the point there? Also do you guys realise advocating for economic reservation leads to spooky scary socialism pretty quickly? Wouldn't like that now would you?

Your solution for ending reservation like they're an oppressive regime is to fundamentally change our society to a point where we'd exceed any civilization to have ever exceeded but then you just stop that logic at the first step by saying

"Financial need based reservation" but on the other hand you wanna hold every right wing belief known to man too, to reach income based reservation we'd have to shed ourselves of any right wing beliefs and essentially become China, that's a fair sacrifice, you can't lick your honey too

As regards reservations just on the basis of gender and economic grounds, are you sure the entitled class will not cry wolf again with an indulgent judiciary ever willing to step in to do complete (mockery of) justice?

I'm curious about how well a career in law suits me, given that my English skills are average or poor. Will I manage the academic demands and moot courts? After completing the course, how challenging will it be to find work as a corporate lawyer or in litigation if my English isn't strong? I love law, but I worry about my weaknesses and the possibility of remaining unemployed.

Thing is- He is not hiring for his own private college where he can hire his friends and relatives to his hearts content. This is a public university. He has a fiduciary duty to hire the best. Its not entirely subjective when candidates with decades of experience and API scores in the hundreds/ books by OUP/CUP aren't even interviewed because they aren't near and dear to the powers that be right? for every decision taken- there has to be a justification provided- a short listing criteria, interview scores etc. Other public universities follow these rules. NLS doesn't. You think its not hurting NLS so far because you don't know the comparator- you don't know who you could have had work there if it weren't for these corrupt practices.

I'm someone who has been rejected multiple times and finally got selected. Honestly, I don't know what worked. I don't have degrees from Tier 1 NLU and haven't gone abroad. There are quite a few like me here. I added publications but I don't know if publications are the reason I got selected when I got selected.

Absolutely disgusting. I was rejected despite getting a LLB and LLM from a tier 1 with a JRF. Only because I did not have a PhD. I understand. But connections can get these mid-20 kids with no work experience, no NET, no PhD and they're teaching as asst professor. PhD needs do be made mandatory. Atleast the starting would be 30+ age, with a bit of life experience as well. Rather than fresh blue eyed baby boys who couldn't even give a presentation during their student days.

As someone who is not from Delhi and practising litigation here for the last three years, I keep hearing a lot of chatter on how some lawyers earn their bread and butter from helping parties settle outside court, either through their contacts in the judiciary or otherwise. I want to know how true this is? Also, how many lawyers help in brokering deals/transactions and take their commission for it?

I don't want to shade anyone, just interested in what other folks think about it and how common this is.

Rule no. 2 - even if you are, don't go for M&A

Rule no. 3 - even if you are, don't be prepared well, so you could be fired

Rule no. 4 - back to rule no. 1

Rule no. 5 - in case you don't follow any of these, you'll suffer

Dear students, A0 here who got assessment internship and eventually PPO in a T1/T2 team by mailing the senior partner.

Surely I have mailed 100 law firms/partners, followed-up and got rude replies from them. But out of 100 at least 4-5 reply positively and you only need 1 opportunity.

Grab that one and convert it into something solid. Having said that, don't overdo it, otherwise you may get yourself shadow banned from the partner/firm.

What if hr are unfit for their job ? Predominant number of hr have no idea of colleges and their distinction. One refers to every other college as an NLU. Like how is MNLU equal to WNUJS ? That’s who you lot are hiring as HRs. It’s sad star of affairs. Get lawyers in their place who actually know stuff about colleges or two. And please make sure that HRs are not over their head in their minds. I for one

That is not at all true. NLSIU has started hiring such people only lately. NUJS used to have the highest number of alumni teaching there once. The number is still pretty high. Jindal has a huge number of NLU alumni teaching there. Such alumni either need to be paid well, or else they should be given more of a free hand in teaching and research at the very least.

full time law student here, in 3rd year, with grades among the top of the batch. done internships at tier 3 level not above. no family law background. i manage my own finances. looking for remote work anything do to with research or writing maybe or anything, which can help cover small expenses for me until i sort things out for myself. it would be a great help if someone could guide or assist, if you or someone u know might be interested, also any guidance u have is also welcome. thanks!!

I’m in TMT. I want to eventually move abroad. Less than 2 PQE. Should I switch to cap marks? But it seems really reductive to work crazy hours for 4-6 to maybe make it to Singapore at some point. Might even have to move to S&R to make it there. I am not a fan of due diligence.
