I have actually defended Sudhir on this website many many times. I personally know of two senior academics who were extremely qualified who were treated appallingly by NLS administration in different hiring cycles. I wish this wasnt true about him but it is.
There is literally a 25-26 year old Assistant professor in this college simply because they had fancy LLM. That is their only credential. No teaching experience. Make it make sense.
Do you have the full CV of this person? Maybe he has good publications, research experience, good teaching skills according to the demo class etc?
because they are better equipped to think about the law and be a better professor in future than TLC professors who are set in their mediocre ways
Lol nice joke. If being privileged and speaking american english is the metric, then sure they are better equipped.
okay- but what then explains the fact that this person is hired and candidates with fancy llms from the best universities abroad are not even after they have significant teaching experience in indian unis?
Because teaching experience means zilch if you cannot convince people at the interview during the demo sessions that you can teach and explain well.
theyre not even interviewed often! candidates more qualified than the ones hired are not even shortlisted! and shortlisting criteria are never made public, decisions never explained!
As it happens, I agree with your statements re: PhD. But what proof do you have that "connections" are getting some people in?
Have you ever heard the saying that sometimes, a master's tools are what is needed to destroy his house?
No the Audre Lorde quote actually is that the masters tools will not destroy the masters house. I disagree with a lot of what she says but let’s not ruin a good turn of phrase.
Don't mix up contractual appointments with permanent appointments. Many contractual positions are filled by relatively junior people who will leave in a year or two. There is nobody on permanent appointment with your description.
Are there any interview red flags you can think of? I interviewed less than a week ago- I think it went all right but I am extremely nervous about the results. Also- any idea about when NLS usually gets back to people and do they also let people know if they are not selected?
You should know if you're selected in the coming 1-2 weeks. I can't even say what went writing in the first interview and what went right in the second.
