We would love more mods to join, thanks for posting.
If you're interested, please say hi with your username (with a posting history of comments, preferably) and let us know which side you would want to join (dark or light) and why.
I would like to join! Have been around here for a long time. Infact the main reason why I signed up with an account recently was because I noticed moderation was too slow and you guys would prefer a mod who already has an account.
@LegallyIndia whats with the hold up? I can volunteer to moderate in the evening slots, seeing as you guys only moderate either in the morning or at night.
Hi! I have no idea what the dark, light side thing mean, but would like to volunteer for moderating (i have 40 minutes of i spend commuting to my job, daily)! I was told the process is a lot more complex than this lol.
The main hope is that mods, being lawyers, should uphold and believe in the values of the Indian constitution and truth and good faith and being kind to others on this forum. Is that ideological?
Dear existing mods / applicants / community: any thoughts or opinions on this? Please feel free to weigh in also.
In my honest opinion, moderating is not like a superpower that let's you post or block a thread on your whims, it's a much more objective process that requires little ideological intrusion.
And yes, a proper system although gives space to all sides but equally restricts each of them as well.
To answer your question in brief: I don't think that a moderator has the authority to impose his/her political ideology while doing his job, hence it should not play a role in moderator selection.
PS: Hoping to see you guys joining the 'dark side' :)
There is no shadowbanning functionality on LI, and also no selective moderation based on political views but there is probably regular moderation of trollish or disingenuous or counterfactual content from both sides of the spectrum.
@LegallyIndia and @AshReh: I think we SHOULD have ideological moderation on LI, with left-liberal views receiving primacy. I am in support of shadow-banning right-wing voices on LI. We have all seen how the right wing has weaponised free speech. It led to Modi 2014/2019, Trump 2016, Milei 2023 etc. The right wing is also financially more powerful, so they cannot be places on the same pedestal. It's also ludicrous to say that Israel supporters and Palestine supporters should get equal free speech rights. Let me tell you that the looming dangers of fascism are now showing up in law schools and need to be curbed.
We think debate and discourse of opposing views can be good and valuable, even on political stuff, as long as the arguments are bona fide honestly held and intended as an intellectual exchange, rather than just chest thumping, trolling or dog whistles. Unfortunately most political chat falls into the latter categories... :(
The moderation has gotten very slow past couple of weeks. I would like to volunteer, on the dark side of course. I have gotten a PPO and have free time on my hands to help people out. If you guys need any help, I will gladly help. I have been using this place since my first year and some of the threads helped me out. And many didn't but the ones that did meant a lot.
Moderation is clearly a tough gig, no one is ever happy... :) Just wanted to say thanks to all volunteers, we'll let you know about the rest of the process in the coming weeks.
