@10, 11: I think you are both right, the partnership structure between the firms is a bit complex and it will depend on interpreration what constitutes starting up/new firms/etc.

@1,2: We were aware that we would probably be accused of NLS bias (which seems to be a popular sport) for the decision.

However, we thought very long and hard about it, also asking advice from the convenor, and we feel this is the most reasonable call we could have made.

The BCI moot has an idiosyncratic best orator scoring system but the 1st round best orator prize is the most equivalent of best overall orator at other competitions.

Depends how you measure "better" I guess.

Top advocates are certainly more visible.

But there must be a handful of transactional lawyers who are as good at their job, surely, even if they are less flamboyant and exciting to watch than top counsel?
