These roles only hire* CAs/old IIT grads/Top 5 Du grads who had relevant experience before joining campus. CAs and old IITians dominate IB/PE hiring.
Consulting, This is where majority of batch focuses on getting into MBBK, Big 4s, A&M etc... in their consulting arms, fresher pay ranges from 25L to 40L depending on firms.
If a lawyer from Tier 1 clg is going for MBA then he has good shots at consulting, just make sure you have decent academic ratings like 9/9/8 or more otherwise MBBK would not even touch your CVs.
Growth in consulting is higher than corporate law, I did my MBA in 2023 , joined BCG at 30lpa then switched to kearney at 50lpa as of now (manager level).
Work life balance is shit or equal to law firms, only USP are exit options in Strategy roles of large conglomerates where I am looking at.

In law we can only become T1 firm partners or Chief legal officer that's it
CAs are majority of Big 4 partners , MBB partners, IB MDs , PE partners and 90% of all CFOs in india are CAs (don't have to remind that CEO > CFO > CLO)
Do you invest in mutual funds ? Check if your mutual fund manager is also a CA , 40% of top 100 mutual fund managers in india are CAs.
Check who the CEOs of major indian Banks are ! All CEOs of big 4s are CAs.
It's like CA have so many avenues , from audit tax accounting to IB/PE/VC/MBB equity research, Fp&a , litigation , fund managers and what not !!

I’m currently working at EY in the Strategy and Transactions division (Deal Advisory) as an AVP, and compensation up to the Director level is fairly well known. Directors typically make around ₹60–70 lakh in base salary, with a 40–50% year-end bonus, bringing total compensation (TC) to roughly ₹1–1.2 crore.
A person typically makes Director at around 10–11 YOE here, given the up-or-out policy. However, things change significantly at the Partner level.
Partner fixed compensation is broadly equal across service lines, with a minimum of around ₹1.5 crore fixed. Keep in mind that it generally takes around 14–15 YOE to make Partner here, compared with roughly 10–12 YOE at Tier 1 law firms.
However, Partner compensation is not really about the fixed salary. Profit sharing and bonuses are exponentially higher than the base.
For context, my Partner currently makes around ₹7.5 crore annually, and he isn’t even a rainmaker. He has around 23 YOE, including 10 years as a Partner. The rainmakers, particularly National Heads, are reportedly clearing ₹15–20 crore annually.
My Partner also closes approximately ₹40 crore in annual books.
So, what do rainmaking Partners at Tier 1 law firms actually make? I am guessing between 10-30cr (it's a broad range I know)
I’m asking because I always wanted to pursue Law through the NLUs, but I couldn’t clear those entrance exams and ended up pursuing CA instead—which, honestly, I’m quite grateful for today.
