Disagreed. This person should be confronted by their uni's law teachers and Vice Chancellor on camera. The VC should personally snatch the degree certificate of whoever wrote this comment and destroy it into a hundred-thousand fragments for all the world to see. The teachers should then scold him or her in public, for all the cameras to see. That should give this individual a taste of the kind of medicine they hope to give to so-called juniors.

Second, not well connected? Look at the examples of so many successful 1st gen lawyers they all went on to become successful. You people have this negative mindset that nothing will happen in lit unless you are connected

Tell me of one of those such people who isn't hugely connected and/or who doesn't have family wealth. And give mea strategy on how to lead a comfortable life on a litigation salary after joining, which will have been after plunging years of money and debt into getting a legal education. There are some jobs you can get without a university degree that pay higher than litigation in India.

Almost anything applied properly can be a weapon. So think again. If screaming national security allows wide latitude and judicial independence has been such a great sword/shield just think how much water has to flow out of the glass and then under the bridge. We are already water stressed. And Indus continues to flow into Pakistan while China dams up Tsang Po

Not suggesting that warts are not occupying benches abroad. Just gave an account of something that left Indian delegation very puzzled. Eventually none of that mattered. The judges continue with their bells and whistles. Some out up a (good) show of being progressive, including those trained in Harvard et al. But when stress tested, the mask comes off.

I have nothing against CJP. But I propose an alliance of butterflies (not the social variety) and bees. Gadflys strictly prohibited.

Agreed. Can confirm that what you say about the Canadians and South Africans also applies to the British. Just that I have been in their system long enough to see the exceptions who incorporate the good part but have issues. Read about the case of Employment Tribunal Judge Philip Lancaster and the tamasha of having his conduct investigated by the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office (JCIO) as an example. I think the Lancaster affair, as we might call it (using the word 'affair' so as not to give weighty normative judgments to conduct still under JCIO investigation), should be a helpful consideration for all those thinking about how to adequately regulate judicial conduct.

My cousin sister did a BA from UCL and then studied law at KCL. I was once visiting London and she showed me around her law school. While we were chatting, a gentleman entered campus on a bicycle and waved at her. She said it was a Lord Justice who was a visiting prof. Later, we went to the cafeteria and I saw the same gentleman standing in line for coffee with the other students, like a regular person.

Nothing to do with the student being from NLU. Even if the student were from a private law college or a TLC or whatever, or even if it were a senior counsel, would have been scolded

Courtroom decorum, originating from practices during the british era and for security reasons don't permitpeople to drink water inside courtroom. Now, does it not happen in british or american courts? We routinely see them drinking water even when arguing. So what about the british era practice? That the courtroom is like a temple and one ought not drink water. Security? I guess thats the primary concern. Barring maybe 2-3 court complexes in the country, every other court complex has such minimal security, one would be appalled. As such, bottle can contain anything, and can be thrown at the judge. That i believe is the reason. But again, if it can be done in britain, then why not india?

Lack of money and growth opportunities

As if the top litigation counsels aren't outearning the top law firm partners by a factor of 3-5x atleast. Keep being in the delulu that a law firm 'job' is the key to growth and success

I know for a fact that when a delegation of Indian SC and HC judges went to Canada on a "learning trip" funded by the UN, they were very surprised to see Canadian judges cycling to office. No security entourage and the usual bells and whistles that judges in India consider birthright.

Similarly, the Canadian even South African judges didn't depend on a retinue of staff to get their water, tea, coffee etc and self service wasn't an odd thing to do. Can give many more examples but pointless.

Don't stop at cockroaches. Need more of insectkind.

My response to that from experience of British judges: very unlikely, but not entirely impossible. I know of some characters in the England and Wales judiciary who might do this kind of thing.

Water should be allowed. It’s a basic human necessity. Coffee/Tea are non essential. But water is. One can’t keep going out of the courtroom to drink water
