Indian politicians have wealth comparable to blue-chip companies and they also get into legal wrangles more. Also, they don't fuss about expenses, like corporate clients. They will write blank cheques to lawyers. because their life depends on wiggling out of corruption cases. So having them as clients is BETTER than having SBI or Tata Steel as a client.

Year 10/12/15 onwards, an average litigation counsel starts to outearn the law firm clerk. And that continues till one is in the field. Before that, yes, those majdoors at firms would earn anf definitely save more. In 10 years those savings would obviously be more than that of the lit. But post that 10-15 year experience, the lit counsel outearns the clerk at the firm who would have reached his or her highest aspiration, a partner somewhere where they dont have their name on the wall, by over 2-3x. Those 10 years of savings even if invested are covered.

How daft are you to compare Ashwath, or even Cyril and Zia, with AMS? AMS’s riches come from representing politicians and their governments in controversial cases: not just the TMC but others too. In many of these cases, the amount alleged to be laundered runs into thousands of crores.

You should only compare AMS’s pure commercial practice when you compare with Ashwath or Cyril or Zia. That is a fair comparison. AMS could still be ahead, but the margin will reduce significantly.

Please. While they may earn well, they definitely won't be earning anything close to ones like AMS HS MR or KS. These firm folks would max earn upto 100cr which too is a stretch a year. While huge, its peanuts compared to what the former earns. Only shows to prove litigation is far better than law firms

Oligopoly. Because Indian lit is an old boys club, the selected few earn in hundreds of crores, whereas the vast majority (say over 90%) are grossly underpaid. The reason why the select few can charge kingly ransom, is because there are very few alternatives. Simple rule of demand and supply at play here.

At the outset, a few things first -

1. His father was a senior advocate and an MP of Parliament. He comes from wealth, so this wealth is not the result of toil in one generation.

2. He is/was a sitting MP himself with deep connections in political and corporate circles, which helps him earn more than possible ways - brokering deals, getting good deals/investment options at a cheap rate.

3. His father's connections helped him become one of the youngest Senior Advocate of our times, plus he also rose from the backing of the Rajasthan Bar lobby.

4. His investments must have compounded to help him amass such wealth.

That said, please understand that he has, through his sheer talent and hard work, reaped the benefits of all the privileges available to him. He is one of India's finest litigators at present and a sitting MP who also fulfils his political duties. For me, personally, he is at a zenith of functioning, which is very difficult to achieve for mere mortals like us and no doubt an inspiration for the younger generation.

See..he is the top 1% of the top 1% of the top 1%. Earns in excess of 100crs. Even if you see his old myneta info for income, income has been in excess of 100cr for past 10 years atleast. Ditto is the case with other Sr Advs who may/may not be in politics - take Harish Salve, UU Lalit before elevation, Kapil Sibal, and any other person in the same league. Heck, even lawyers in the next league would earn in excess of 50cr a year. Some even from their early or late 40s. That's whag litigation is for you when you are successful. Now, compare the same with the earnings of the same tier of partners in law firms? Who would they be? The founding partners mostly? Of maybe the top 5-10 law firms? Are their earnings even close? Yes. Close. Close but on a lower level. Its hard to think of any law firm partner earning more than 100cr a year. So there you go, your top earning law firm partner does not make as much as the top litigation lawyer. Same is the case with the ones in the lower leagues. But compare the same, ie, in the same city. You wouldn't expect a law firm to be there in a t4 city/town. Ofc the advocate there would be earning peanuts and nothing compared to the average majdoor in a law firm. But compare the avg majfoor in a firm to an average litigation counsel? You'll see the litigation counsel start to outearn the law firm counterpart easily by mid-to-late 30s. Or max early 40s. Add the fact that these lit counsels are far more respected and have more goodwill and have much more avenues open to them - Senior Designation, politics, AG, Judgeship, etc. Does your law firm career offer this? Lol. Have been saying this for ages and people here still think one would earn more in a law firm..sure your law firm partner would earn in excess of 100cr a year, but by then the lit counsels would be earning atleast 5x of that. That's the case even for partner [equity] levels.
