NKC has smartly invited people from both camps on the governing body, ensuring his longevity. After him, the “ideal” VC candidate will be someone who has the blessings of both camps. I personally think a VC from the minority community has a strong chance and will receive the approval of both camps, because the Muslim vote is crucial to the electoral fortunes of both camps. We are 8-9 months away from the next assembly elections
The key question is whether Justice Dipankar Datta will be the Chancellor’s nominee — in which case, he may veto an unqualified candidate (as he is not TMC-aligned) or choose to wash his hands off the matter. Which will it be?
