What to expect next after qualifying the interview level? Is there going to be another interview by the judges? Or the candidates named in the list are selected!

Does anyone has received any correspondence from the court after the interview on what and when to expect next!

If this were true, then CVs would not have to be submitted at the time of listing your preferences of judges but instead only after you are offered an interview on the basis of rank. Your rank will ensure you are considered for an interview but you'll actually receive the call based on a holistic review. The judicial office interviews are taken by the judges themselves and interviewing everyone on a rank list without consideration as to whether they would likely want to work with them at all is what doesn't make sense to describe as non-transparent. As for influences/referrals, every judge can pick two people without giving the exam at all. If anyone had those level of connections, why would they give this exam to begin with?

Was part of the process two years ago, when the scheme was newly brought in with new changes by DYC. Had filled in the preference list, didn't receive a call from any judge. Eventually got an email from the registry for the interview. That mostly happens in lots. It's a 3-5 min interview, depending on how much interest you are able to inspire from the panel.

I dont understand why you ‘dont understand the non-transparent critique’. A simple reading of the detailed advertisement will reveal in unambiguous terms that the process of calling candidates in for an interview is not supposed to be discretionary and the scheme itself expects meritocracy to be followed, although the contrary has always been the norm. The subjectivities could be evaluated after conducting an interview of the same candidate. This preliminary screening is not based on any metric except for any influence and referrals the successful candidates might have use. I’ve been on the inside, I’ve seen how things work and you cant change my mind.

Congratulations on getting the 2 interviews mate but just because it worked out for you doesnt imply that other people’s criticism of this process isnt justified.

I was interviewed by two offices. They’ve been happening in a staggered fashion since the end of May, from my understanding, as the vacation is on. I don’t think the process has concluded though.

More generally, the rank list merely makes the interviews a possibility. It’s not like the UPSC. It’s up to the discretion of the office to then further select people to interview based on the CV. Being on the rank list doesn’t entitle anyone to an interview automatically. I don’t understand the ‘non-transparent’ critique since discretion is inherently somewhat random and subjective? A person can like or not like a CV for any number of reasons. It’s like asking a law firm HR to list out why they liked or didn’t like a CV. Sure, rank is one objective metric but it is not the determinative factor here specifically because of the nature of the job, where you’ll be working out of a judge’s house and the relationship is a bit more interpersonal than a regular one of a boss and employee. Maybe a judge wants to encourage clerks from marginalised backgrounds, or the candidate has done some research that is relevant to their usual roster. All this can’t be captured by rank alone.

The registry clerkships do rely more heavily on rank so if you’re not dead set on a judge’s office, those recruitments will also happen later so keep an eye out.

Did this two years ago. Some people won’t receive an interview call from any judge and the entire process is fully discretionary. Judges may shortlist using the ranks but they’re not obliged to and can avoid it altogether. But Registry will conduct interviews after judges finish theirs. Anyway the point is, don’t depend too much on this. Better to directly apply to a judge that you want to work under. In any case, the clerkship is just a 1 year contract and hardly holds any value.

Its been over 2 weeks since results were out and candidate’s preferences were submitted. Im yet to receive any communication of an interview despite getting a good rank. Has anyone who weote the exam received any subsequent communication or has any sort of info on that?

I already knew theres no transparency in how SC handles this recruitment but didnt think it will be so blatant to disregard the merit list altogether. I have negligible hopes from this but the optimist in me would like to believe that the SC had just faced some delay and its not just me who hasnt received any interview.
