I understand that being in a pretty unknown or a random college for law mostly doesn't do you good.

I'm talking about decent private universities like Symbiosis Pune or Jindal or Christ here.

I've gotten through Christ Law School's entrance examination now, but I also have a shot with NLIU Bhopal.

Now, any sane person would go for the NLU over Christ, I get that. But being from Bangalore, Christ is so much more affordable for us + saves us the travelling expenses when compared to NLIU.

Is an education loan worth it for NLIU? Should I go for it? Please help

Christ is decent enough, don't take a loan for NLIU. In your vacations, make it a point to have as much exposure through various kinds of internshhip that you can. You may have limited chances to get college placements to a T-1 but if you intern well enough you should be able to get a decent PPO in your 4th or 5th year. Worst case scenario, you can move to a T-1 after 2-3 year work ex if you're on top of your game. That's not something NLIU can guarantee you anyway.

Lol I am sure these comments which say "NLIU isn't worth it" don't know shit about what that place offers. And putting it at par with the likes of christ and other private unis is just outrageous. On a broader level, who won't take a tier 1 NLU over private colleges (now we'll have a bombardment of "nliu is not tier 1" and shit. Don't waste your time here as i have my facts verified and straight and won't give dog's shit to such opinions by warriors of tier 1.5 nlus.)

1. University name does matter. To an extent, you can overcome the setback of a slightly less-than-ideal uni reputation if you are really good, but not much. Especially in India, where you choose to study law is very important.

2. However, at the same time, having an "NLU" tag is not (unlike what some would have you believe) the key to everything. Alright, you become eligible for careers at foreign law firms (though again, there's no guarantee to get through those), you're more likely to have what it takes to get through a good master's if you go to many NLUs, your foundations are likely to be stronger, etc. But some NLUs are better than others, while some don't deserve the "NLU" tag, at all.

3. NLIU is certainly not worth getting a loan for. Don't do it, please. Christ is not a great law school, either.

4. If you get Jindal, take it (unless your financial situation doesn't allow for it). Otherwise, give yourself another shot at CLAT.

Top 3 NLUs are something else and NLIU obviously cannot match it. If OP doesn’t wanna give CLAT another go, then I would suggest they go for NLIU as opposed to Christ. And as for the education loan, I think they should go for it

I know kids from Christ and they literally break their head over lack of good professors and they certainly do not have an exposure as good as NLIU.

My god how much are you living in oblivion? You say NLIU is not worth it and jindal is worth taking a shot? Jab cheezon ka pta nahi hai toh gyaan kyun preach kar rhe ho LI ke threads ki info par rely karke? This guy's future is at stake, and you are giving such absolutely absurd suggestions? Do you even know the exposure and placements which NLIU offers? It is a tier-1 uni and has a record of great placements. I am in jindal right now and would take NLIU anyday over any private unis or tier-2 nlus

If you’re considering an education loan, NLIU is definitely worth it. Just imagine the networks, exposure, mentorship you’ll have at a Tier 1 NLU. If you do well in law school, you’ll definitely be able to repay the loan yourself. The opportunities at NLIU is worth more. go for it

I’m a second year NLSIU student, from Bangalore as well. Christ is simply not good.

Hey, just speaking from personal experience here. I go to a Tier 2 NLU while many of my friends are in Tier 1 NLUs, and even that gap makes a noticeable difference in terms of approach and opportunities. I’m not saying Christ is a bad college, I honestly don’t know much about it, but NLIU will open doors and shape your legal career in ways that Christ probably never can.

I don’t want to get into whether NLIU is truly Tier 1 or not — that’s a separate debate. All I can say is that a college like NLIU is 100% worth it. Sure, you can get a job through Christ too, but it’ll likely be much harder. NLIU has a legacy, a culture of mentorship, academic exposure, and peer learning that Christ may not be able to match.

I know the idea of a student loan might sound daunting, but it’s actually very common for NLU students. If you get into a college like NLIU, you can easily get a loan — and more importantly, you’ll be in a good position to repay it once you graduate. So many students take this path.

Of course, it’s your decision at the end of the day. But if there’s one thing I regret deeply, it’s not giving CLAT my all when I had the chance. Please, if you have this opportunity — take it.

Christ has very random disciplinary rules and is generally more authoritarian. I would pick NLIU to have a more chill college life, which is my idea of a college life.

Take a long term view. Being away from home will do more for your personality than commuting to Christ. The travelling expenses will feel like a rounding error 10 years after you graduate.

If you work hard it doesn’t really matter. I employ almost 700 people across the world and I can assure what your abilities are matter far more than your college eventually. Yes your starting salary could be different, but you eventually find your true level. So focus on learning relentlessly and being worthy. If your college matters even after 5 years of graduation then you would have truly failed.

Thank you so much! This definitely cleared up my worries. I would’ve loved to give another attempt at CLAT but unfortunately, I cannot due to certain reasons. I’m definitely happy with NLIU or NLUJ and you’re right, Christ definitely is not in their league.

Thank god bhai you took the right path. NLUs he lena whichever choose. 2 years down the line you will laugh looking back that you were comparing nliu with Christ hahaha. Ask any sane person in Christ itself he will not think for a second before going to nliu. People die for this shit. Don't ever make mistakes of convenience and loan and all that. Comfort zone ke bahar aao you will see how many kids in nliu are on student loan but they know that they put their money on the right place. You can do freelancing and stuff to manage your expenses. Work hard and see you at better place. In one word don't do mistake of taking christ you will regret it bhai. People might college matter nhi karta your talent does blah blah. Agar college matter nhi karta toh 70k people won't be writing this exam. If you are getting the opportunity to be a T1 nlu don't miss it. Telling you this from personal experience. All the best
