Cats are more active in the night than in the morning.
So there are chances that your cat will sleep through the whole day. Before I go to office I fill up cold water and some food out for my cat which he eats in the afternoon and I have an understanding with my neighbour aunty where she checks on him, his food and litter box once a day as soon as I reach home. I spent a good amount of time with him- running and trying to catching him, throwing paper balls for him to chase. So he is active, my cat is now 7 years old now so he prefers pats than play nowadays.
Cats are independent but they suffer from anxiety. For eg: when I started working my cat got deadly sick because there was a change in his environment.
As long as you can give them time at least once- twice a day they will be happy
On weekends try to play with your cat longer, sit beside the little dude while work.
I speak to my cat too. Proper conversations. I don’t know if that helps connect with him but to me it feels like he is listening.
PS: For my VERY VERY bad experience: if you are a non vegetarian or generally okay to prepare some boiled fish or chicken. One meal raw diet. Dry food is like giving your kid chips everyday!!
Get the little dude neutered or spayed.
Remember if your cat is a girl she will be needed to be spayed and it’s an open surgery so you have to take one day off and 2-3 wfh for her.

Change is hard for a cat, I moved houses currently with a cat. My cat didn’t eat drink for 2 days he was just hiding under the bed.
My cat is a senior cat so change in environment cause health issues too like vomitting, UTI, and diarrhoea.
There are ways you can move to Mumbai with a cat but the initial few months will be hard.
Think about it for your cat :
He is not in the house he was living for a year
The regular people he sees aren’t there
And the only person he knows in this world will be gone for 12 hrs a day.
You will miss your cat but it’s the right thing to do
If you still want to get your cat with you:
Join your law firm, look at your working hours and see if you have get time for the cat then afterwards when you go back home get your cat with things he plays with (toy, blanket) if possible with a family member too
So the cat is in a strange new place but it is comfortable seeing that his people are there too
A week or two of adjustment and the cat will do well
