Do note: My position is not that these authors or news papers have done anything wrong. When Religion and orthodox religious groups do things that are terrible because of their religion- we dont actually do anything good by ignoring the religious motivations.

The "Far Right" as you could call them are harmful because they are orthodox hindus who want to hurt people because of their religious beliefs. That includes within their fold the far right in places like afghanistan and iran and iraq and algeria - in the muslim world. People who roam around the streets with swords in their hands looking for members of another group to attack and do so because their religion teaches them that apostates and non believers are less human are dangerous because of their religious beliefs.

Most indian muslims dont do that - not because islam is some religion of peace- no religion is a religion of peace. But because they are indians and they chose to live in a secular country when they or their ancestors had the choice. Some orthodox Indian muslims behave the way their religion commands. The KKK and westboro baptist church and people who bomb abortion clinics do so because of their christian religion. They are religious fundamentalists.

When you dont apply the same standard to islam because you think the world is divided by racial or by east/west power relations- you stand in the way of islamic reform and you stand in the way of more moderate and rational and progressive muslims from being able to lead their community out of this dark middle age thinking. You encourage the orthodoxy by claiming that religion has nothing to do with the actions motivated by that religion.

Pi-bashing is a phenomenon that's been around for much longer than the 80's and 90's. You are right about the part about the social disadvantage which Pakistani and Bangladeshi-origin people face there. But Pi-bashing was started by people (and is practiced by people) who probably wouldn't be able to point to either India or Pakistan on a map.

I think some of the people here don't really understand the concept of "P*aki-bashing" that developed in the 80s and 90s UK. It's basically about the hatred of Pakistaniness and the associated of Pakistanis with negative attributes - and often Islam and Muslims are stereotyped as equating to Pakistanis. So when it comes to many social issues, Pakistanis are the main target. Furthermore, the Pakistanis and Bangladeshis are the most segregated in the UK, and are stereotyped with things like the drug trade, crime and youth delinquency, so it's much more than what you write about.

This is incorrect. The vast majority of the aggression is aimed at Muslims, and they have a lot of mainstream support from the British public and South Asians over this. I would not be surprised if there were riots between Hindus and Muslims as there were in the 2022 Leicester Riots.

There are a minority of far-right who hate everything including Indians, but I have come across more hate against Indians from Muslims and the left-wing, than I have from the far-right. It's only on highly moderated social media where racism against Indians is amplified.

The riots are predominantly between the nationalists and so-called "Pakistanis" (people from Muslim backgrounds of North African, Middle Eastern and South Asian descent) and generally Muslims.

There are a few racists in the far-right but most of them aren't hateful towards Indians and Sri Lankans. It's just like any protest or riot, you can't stereotype the entire group of people. But there have been a number of South Asians who have attended these far-right protests in the UK.

A bigger issue is that anti-immigration sentiment is much higher and you might have problems integrating into British society. Generally immigrants have been complaining about declining living standards and rising crime, a lot of which is to blame on Muslims (Bangladeshis, Pakistanis and North Africans generally). I have heard from a lot of immigrants from both South Asian and other backgrounds that the quality-of-life is not worth the effort, and that all the racism currently (from both right wing and left wing) is causing many to return back - the former first minister of Scotland is reportedly planning to leave Europe due to fears of rising Islamophobia.

Would you call women living under taliban rule being beaten up islamophobic? Would you call muslim victims of lynchings in india hinduphobic? Would you call gays persecuted by christians christianophobic? What about people who supported those victims? Its no kind of phobia or racism to point out that fundamentalist religious people who want to impose their orthodoxy on the world are going to upset the norms that people in secular countries are accustomed to. or to point out that working class citizens of any country have a legitimate claim in wanting their government to provide for them before providing for illegal immigrants. Its elitism to think otherwise because your job hasnt gone anywhere because a slave class is imported. Your family and friends do not find it difficult to go to dance classes and go to work because mobs of illegal immigrants are assaulting them. You havent been punished for stating the race, religion or immigration status of your rapist on social media. You are safe in your ivory tower to tell the common people to eat cake and be kind.

Stop funding the East India Company. LLM is stupid and to fund a UK University, when they will primarily use your money to improve their LLB rankings, and when that degree entitles to you to practically nothing there, is not wise.

If Indian universities do not attract you, look a little closer. Think of NUS. Think of other European countries, which are more in need of human resource, and therefore have more sustainable prgrams.

I am very pleased indeed that the quality of people who haunt this website doesn't reflect the quality of people in the Indian legal community in general. On the one hand, we have this anti-Muslim + 'Indians only are victims' mentality (see 'poor Indians'), while, on the other, we have antisemitic conspiracy theorists. We can somehow never get it right, can we!?

The thing is, although it started as an anti-Muslim riot and Tommy Robinson of the English Defence League (the ringleader) is actually tweeting in support of Hindus, it is now becoming just all-out chaos where shops are being looted, everyone is being attacked and robbed etc. Just outright thuggery by neo-Nazi hooligams. Also inevitably gonna be counter-violence from the Pakistani community and their gangs. Us poor Indians are caught in the middle.

Although London and Oxbridge are not affected, there is violence in Manchester, Leicester etc, where some people do go to study law. Anyone heard any stories?
