While it's fantastic that the #1 youth icon in the world is standing for Palestine, let's look at oppressed people beyond Palestine too. Blacks in America, Dalits in India and Muslims and LGBTQIA+ people worldwide. Now, traditionally our fight for human rights has been seen through a narrow lens of rights: equal opportunity in employment, hate speech etc. What Greta Thunberg's participation highlights is that the discourse of "social justice" for oppressed peoples can be broadened and intersected with "climate justice". The possibilities for research in law are limitless. For example:

- Look at the fight for recognition of same-sex marriage in India. With climate change, there will be new diseases cropping up and heatwave-related illnesses. More and more people will get hospitalised. If you don't allow same-sex marriages, then problems like family consent, next of kin etc will arise.

- Look at the CAA in India. Bangladesh and Maldives will probably get submerged in the next 100 years and cease to exist. Their citizens will naturally migrate to other countries as environmental refugees, including India . If you enact the CAA and bar Muslims from citizenship, where will they go?

etc etc etc.

These would all make fascinating project topics in law school.

There are like several Muslim majority countries where secularism is thrown out the window and governance is as per the religion only. Wherever theyre not the majority everybody cries their heart out for them and gives them appeasement and special status.

Interesting question, why did India adopt democracy? Is that an Indian or 'Hindu' quality? And, controversially, would India have done so if it hadn't been for British occupation and repression, as well as post-enlightenment 'Western-style' education and ideas of some of its revolutionary leaders?

Is the fact that Russia as a dictatorship is nominally a Christian state relevant? Or that China is a anti-religious? Religion is only one aspect of power and history and accident, it's rarely the totality as you seem to imply.

Is Christian fundamentalism or Hindu fundamentalism the dominant group within Christianity or Hinduism ? Do the Christians in Nordic countries and America and England arrive at secularism because their religious fundamentalists are tempered by the enlightenment values of most Christian’s in those countries ?

Is India perhaps secular because many many Hindus including Gandhi and Nehru and Ambedkar and everyone else who thought like them rejected Hindu fundamentalism of their coreligionists in favour of a secular state ?

Why then are people in iran or Pakistan or Afghanistan unable after all this time to reject the fundamentalists among their coreligionists ? Why are they not secular democracies ?
