there are only 5 vacancies for 2024 recruitment cycle, to those who may be able to provide any insights, how this trend may continue in next 2-3 years? Will the vacancies see a sharp increase perhaps around 30 or it will remain low around 5-10?
Unlikely to increase. SEBI is also into cutting costs and reducing its headcount
Sebi’s attrition rate, especially in legal is high which is why legal vacancies have now come out for 3 years in a row. The vacancies will remain stable with 10-13 being the max range. It isn’t that big of an org to have 30 vacancies only for legal.
The vacancies depend a lot on the increase in work and the perception of management. There are already around 150 lawyers working in the legal stream. Attrition has increased because of stagnation issues.

Law graduates are also eligible to apply for general stream.
Vacancies very year on year

Generally work of SEBI is growing as there are more listed companies than ever

23 and 24 were super busy years so in the last cycle SEBI took a lot of people- around 30

Only 6% of Indians currently participate in the equity market, buy mutual funds etc

This number is expected to go up to ~36% over 10-20 years as is the norm in developed countries

Also fractional investment in real estate is going to create a huge new market - SEBI chairman says that itself likely to be as big as the entire equity market

If that happens you will need a lot more SEBI law officers. 20-30 appointments every year is not too much to expect honestly. A few years like be down years like this year - don't worry about it. You can attempt multiple times. Just prepare hard thats all
