No NLU alumni has got a Lok Sabha ticket before, but it may happen in 2024 and to multiple people, because all parties will look for fresh blood and a whole generation of lawyers are ageing and will need to be replaced. Let’s take a look at possible candidates:

1. BJP: Good chance of NUJS alum Jaiveer Shergill getting a ticket from Ludhiana. The BJP is not strong in Punjab, but if Modi mobilises a decent vote share + if the Congress, AAP and Akalis all contest separately and split anti-BJP votes, he may pull through. There is also another NUJS alum Lokenath Chatterjee, who made history by becoming the first ever NLU Vidhan Sabha candidate from a major party (in the 2021 Bengal assembly elections). However, he was involved in a controversy which has made his chances of getting a ticket weak.

2. Congress: HNLU alum Avani Bansal has a decent chance of getting a ticket from Chhattisgarh. She comes from an influential family and is a woman. She also has stellar academic credentials. Another person in the running is Muhammad Khan, who comes from a Congress family and is close to Jairam Ramesh. He too had impressive academic qualifications. He could get a ticket from UP. Both of them could win if they get a constituency with favourable demographics, such as heavy Muslim or Yadav populations.

3. AAP: NLSIU alum Brijesh Kalappa is pretty much the face of the party in Karnataka and will definitely get a ticket.
Ashish goel has worked closely with senior congress leaders but I'm not sure he would want to contest elections, more suitable for a RS nomination
Would it make a difference to (a) the nation, and (b) the institutions? If you do, then (c) kindly explain the basis of the belief in detail, and (d) what forms would this difference take. Thank you.
None of these people have a real chance except for Avani Bansal, because of her family background, financial resources and proximity to Rahul Gandhi. Jaiveer Shergill is no doubt rich, but not influential enough to get a Lok Sabha ticket.
Prashant Deshpande (NLS 2000) contested from Uttar Kannada LS constituency in Karnataka on a Congress ticket in 2014.
US politics is full of Harvard law school alumni, but we don’t even have an MP from the Harvard of the East. Very sad state of affairs.

The most successful NLU alumni in politics have all been from the BJP. Vikramjit Banerjee has the coveted job of ASG. Jaiveer Shergill is now a major BJP spokesman and may get a Lok Sabha ticket. He didn't get such importance in the Congress.
