If you are interested in applying, then find those out yourself. All those places have websites. These are not university facilities, so it won't be reflected in the university pay structure. The cost for outsiders is not much, but then, Kolkata is known for being a low expense city.

NUJS people keep mentioning Sports Authority of India, Bengal Tennis Academy etc. You people need to clarify:

- The costs involved

- The quality of the facilities

- Whether there is heavy demand and it's hard to get a slot (as it's not exclusively for NUJS)

Please be transparent and give us proper info.

Another advantage that NUJS has over NLUJ at present is much greater student involvement in decision-making and university policies. If students are united against any policy or admin decision, it rarely ever sees implementation. Because of the erstwhile NLUJ VC, the student body there could not even form for long and even once it did, the admin never used to give it any importance. That may change with the new VC, but such changes take time. Other admin people have not been changed after all, and their perspective will not change very easily.

A huge issue with NLUJ is that because of their contractual positions, they can never retain any good faculty. All of their faculty members keep applying at various NLUs and would leave the moment they get an opportunity there. In fact, several NLUJ faculty keep applying for even contractual positions elsewhere, which bodes ill for their involvement and loyalty for the institution. NUJS also sees faculty leaving regularly, but usually for better opportunities, higher positions etc., and they have a core group of people who are from Kolkata and hence would obviously prefer to stay there. I am not from either place, but have known plenty of people studying and teaching at both.

No campus worth speaking is a hyperbole. It has got a small campus, but in the middle of the city with all its amenities. Many other NLUs have much larger campuses, but far away from the city. The facilities of multiple sports training centres are available nearby in Salt Lake area, apart from SAI, that's true.

Sensible comment finally. Personally, I would suggest NUJS over NLUJ because while NLUJ’s VC might be better, NLUJ also has a state quota from 2024 and the location sucks, so it won’t be easy for it to attract great faculty even in future. Kolkata isn’t the biggest city in India but many intellectual Bongs hail from WB. And as far as legacy achievements for co-currciculars go, NUJS is still ahead of NLUJ. And I’m not from either of these NLUs.

There are no comparisons. NUJS produces most number of jobs both in absolute numbers and in percentage. In the same manner, NUJS has a way better academic environment, so even if you want to pursue academics, I would rather be in NUJS. NLUJ doesn't even have a Rhodes Scholar, who are you going to look up to? Better Job Opportunities, Rhodes Scholars, way better mooting record an older alumni base. I don't even understand, how the comparison is even fair? Choose NUJS, NLUJ has an abysmal placement record this year. I would infact put GNLU over NLUJ and NUJS is still miles ahead than GNLU.

BW or anyone else can come up with any ranking that they want. If a student wishes to put credence to those rankings without having the slightest idea about their methodology, then they are welcome to do so. I won't rise to your obvious bait and try to shout about the supremacy of any university over another. I would rather advise students to learn more about the current faculty profile, research output and publications, student achievements including placement, scholarships etc., admin flexibility and student body strength, all these relevant factors and then decide for themselves where they would like to go.

The thing is I also play badminton on a competitive level. I would wish to continue with that while getting the chance to excel academically. Therefore, it would be great if I could get that place that gave me space for both.

NUJS still has got several teachers who can help you with academics and industry prep, especially if you are interested in Corp Law, IP, Sports Law, Contract, Air& Space Law, Law & Tech etc. I don't know much about NLUJ faculty other than that they only have contractual positions because of some weird university policy, so won't comment on them. Jobwise as someone said, you will get plenty of opportunities from both the places and it will depend on you how you choose to make use of it. Best of luck!

Imo, these colleges are very administration driven and a bad one can literally break a college (as has happened with NLUJ, NLIU and even NUJS in the past).

Regarding your preference between the two, I would say campus life is better at NLUJ but the opportunities at NUJS are probably marginally better. However, since you will graduate in 2029 if you need up in any of these colleges, I would bet on NLUJ just because Dr. Kaur has done great work at NLUD previously.

I had decided to put NUJS above NLUJ, but recently got to know that NLUJ is getting a new VC. Would that make a difference given the fact that my reason for choosing NUJS was it's more liberal and free environment?

This post is in no way meant to look down on either of these prestigious institutions, just a way for me to make the best decision.
