The girls hostel warden stopped the main gate guards from letting anyone leave campus after 11, even for flights. Yesterday, two students had to leave for the airport but the guards were not bulging. After a lot of confrontation, the guards allowed them to leave on an extremely sexist condition of a boy accompanying a girl if she wants to leave late night. Apparently, there has been orders from the girls hostel warden that that a girl cannot leave for the airport at night unless a boy goes with her. We NEVER had such SEXIST rules in place before but lately NUJS has been all over the news thanks to admin tyranny. Almost every single day in the campus group one can witness a new controversy. No worder why protests have been taking place.
Can we not have these toxic comparisons all the time? Women across the country face severe sexism. Instead of collectively finding solutions, all we do is fight one another over "who's better."
simple solution, let another person (boy or girl) accompany the person who wants to leave campus after 11pm. Also, the chaperone should be made mandatory irrespective of whether the person who is leaving the campus is a boy or a girl. If you want to be doubly sure double the number of chaperone so that they feel secure while coming back.

Actually, curfew was implemented quite strictly for at least the first 10 years of the university. Students never had any problem with it either. However, after that, discipline, responsibility and standards started plummeting and today here we are.
I agree with you that you have a superiority complex that's not doing you or NLUD any good whatsoever. Only fools keep calling themselves the best. The real best has got other people calling them the best.

Please also mention the reason. Girl students have been subjected to molestation and groping in the dark within the campus during late night. They are being threatened not to complain by senior boys and girls, unless they want their placements sabotaged. Let the student atrocities also come out too, which actually allows the admin to take high handed actions. As per regulations, after curfew hours, if you are supposed to leave or enter the hostels, you're supposed to have advance warden permission. Which is a perfectly rational requirement. You are living in a shared space and not your personal house. If you don't want that, then live outside campus.
In criminal law, the accused it the person who is kept behind bars and away from society. so why not close boys hostels after 11, if the problem is male students harassing women at night?
As a guy I support the rule. Safety first. NLU Administration cannot control things and people outside their campus no. Is it sexist? Yes. Would I see it as a totally unreasonable step given our world RN, no.
What's next, by this line of thinking? Early curfew hours for GH residents? Regulations on dress code? Men love to peddle all this sexist shit in the name of "protecting women"
misogyny and conservatism are two different things, dont make everything about some political belief. its MISOGYNY, hate for women by men. Conservatism is not locking up victims and letting rapists and harassers out to commit more heinous crimes
By definition it's different but in practice there's quite a large overlap, especially in Indian context. Also, I was referring to ardent "traditional values" conservatives, not your regular centre-right free marketeers.
I ama girl who studied at NUJS. I feel there should be some different rules for women in the college, like NLU D.
In fact i feel there should be some rules in NUJS for all. The student body is given too much freedom. There is no order or discipline in that university. I wish i had gone to NLU D instead. I would have succeeded at finding peers prepping for govt exams instead of a crowd who partied all throughout their 5 years and ended up at law firms.
if groping and rape is the problem, then keep those men behind the doors in curfew or suspend them, why keep the girls in, what's the logic? honestly everyone just hates women these days, new fad
its literally the same in every country, somehow women have to come together and fight against such policies on our own. men only like to help each other and shame women.
Sometimes I feel, the whole system and mechanism is designed just for men by men. Like they are the ones raping and groping and creating every issue. they are the reason we need judges and courts and the police. but just because of their inability to put the male perpetrators behind bars or even poshing them, they still want to oppress women. Stay in your rooms, what next? dont dress like that? dont go anywhere on your own? dont go to classes? just become a housewife and be oppressed by your husband?
It's condemnable and totally misogynistic towards girls, but you reap the fruits of inaction. If you turn a blind eye to corruption and incompetence, it emboldens those in power. What do I mean? This: when NC was appointed VC in an arbitrary and non-consultative manner, the students should have protested. When education minister Partha Chatterjee was jailed, the students should have immediately demanded a probe into what influence he wielded at NUJS and how appointments of staff of all grades were done.
