Let's think scientifically here. Isn't wine also made like this? People crushing grapes with their feet? So what's the problem? If you can pay thousands of rupees for French wine made with people using their feet, there shouldn't be a problem eating food crushed with people's feet, as long as the feet are clean and washed. It's no different from crushing food with hands that are clean and washed. Remember, people use hands for things even dirtier than what they use their feet for! Also, at the end of the day, if food is being heated to a certain temperature then most germs will go away.
Exactly. There was a time when even bread was made like this. In Bengal, bread is called "paarooti" - the rough translation is roti made with the feet.
First of all, as per WHO bacteria in food gets killed at around 65℃. So if food is cooked in this temperature it will not contain bacteria. So the question to ask is whether the food was cooked at this temperature. The answer seems to be yes. Also, we haven't heard of any huge outbreak of stomach bacterial infection.
Secondly, if you think it's gross to eat food touched by human feet, then you should google and see in what unhygienic conditions chicken is prepared. The hens poop in their cages and eat the poop. See this article by PETA, which says that you are literally eating bird poop when you eat chicken.
Update: The Country Director of Sodexo and other senior executives flew down and met with the students today. The following measures have been promised:
- Thorough review
- Deep cleaning and sanitisation
- Installation of CCTV and action against the employee filmed by the students (not clear if he will be sacked: the pro-human rights students/faculty want him to stay while others want him to be sacked immediately)
Such a Jiggly response. Why should one have to pay extra for that food instead of what you are already paying for mess food? One incident reveals that there are more. And you haven't seen the inside of any NLU or its mess, so you've got no locus to comment on those.
As a JGLS student with top contacts around the country, I am disappointed to see such a state of food in my college despite paying them all my pocket money in college fees this year (which they clearly begged my dad for).
I thought only government colleges and NLUs had slum-quality living conditions. This isn't a random NLU, it's JGLS!!

2. One stray incident of bad hygiene doesn't qualify as the rule.
3. Mess hygiene at NLUs are probably even worse.
