With growing number of law firms and cut throat competition spurring in, the firm needs to adapt itself in terms of management, pro-employee policies, pay, client acquisition etc. The โ€˜โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎโ€™ approach may not work today.

Good

- excellent work life balance; weekends are respected; post 8 PM you are completely free

- coffee machine, green tea, milk tea

- ample time to learn things on own and do other things like read upon different laws etc from your desk in office

- [MOD NOTE: Bonus payment information contested as inaccurate] bonus 2 months- 4 months salary in a single tranch; have witnessed people getting even 6 months

- good offsite; attended one in Rishikesh this year

Not so good

[MOD NOTE: Payscale contested as inaccurate] - pay scale; pay here is monthly 50K-60K (Fresher); 60K-75K (1 Year Work Exp); 80K-90K (2 Year Work Exp) and so on; appears sub-standards from the industry standards where other T1 pay Freshers 125K-150K per month

- work flow is not that great; but honestly this is subjective, โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ

[MOD NOTE: Contested, the Mumbai office does have an HR] - mumbai office does not have a HR. Leave, complaints, etc. are managed by a single point of contact who happens to be a senior partner.

overall if i have to sum up

good lifestyle and peace of mind

not so good pay and learning

I donโ€™t know about this place. But I can certainly tell you what you should look for in any firm.

Assess any firm on the following parameters: (A) deals done by the firm in last 2-3 years; (B) rankings as per various prestigious accolades - to give a fair idea about the current market standing; (C) compensation it offers - this is relevant because compensation offered is in sync with (A); (D) the attrition rate of the team, and (E) real work exposure in area you want to grow.

Make your decision through a detailed examination. Talks to peers who had worked there, reach out to them. Navigate through the website and LinkedIn page of firms, as they give you a fair idea of (A). And then make the decision.

All the best.

Here are some quick tips to help you:

1. Search the website of the firm and itโ€™s LinkedIn page, to see the recent deals it has done, the people you would be working etc.

2. Reach out to employees of the firm- preferably past employees, and ask for specific questions.

3. Take the positives from this thread, if any.

Absolutely true. When portals like LI themselves (which exist for voicing these kind of concerns) do not publish the comments, how do potential applicants know which firms to avoid ? How would information reach the common man ? And more importantly, how would abusive partners know that word would spread and their reputation take a beating ? Vaish should not only apologize to its lawyers, but should take active steps to create a harmonious working environment, where treating one's employees and associates with respect should be of paramount importance. Create an environment where people feel happy to come to work, and do not create power structures within an organization. If an SA or PA has messed up or is at fault, they should be blamed and should face the consequences, instead of an innocent A0 or A1 being made the sacrificial lamb.
Yes, because law firms don't have anything worthwhile to do other than frequent anon platforms throughout the day.
Further, have you seen even one Vaish comment where someone from Vaish has acknowledged or even apologized for what the associates were put through? It's impossible that EVERY SINGLE person has something bad to say, unless it's โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ.

This is the very purpose of platforms like LI which democratize the structure and make sure that checks and balances exist on firms. Vaish should apologize to its lawyers instead of attacking them in a petty manner.
It is highly unfair to troll the firm here.

See, every place has some inefficiency. The last two years have been rough for the firm, because there was a spilt wherein they corporate segment spilt off to another firm called AL.

I having worked here for around a short stint can certainly say that work is there, but not very high like T1s. But, thatโ€™s a phase. Sometimes work is there, sometimes not.

Coming to the aspect of culture, the culture is decent enough. Strict of course and old school set up, where there are knowledge sessions, strict timings, etc.

But I personally am of the opinion that many comments here are harsh and uncalled for by those who had left the place.

Let us appreciate for what the firm has provided. If you donโ€™t like the workplace for any reason, you can and have all right to switch any day switch. But commenting here is unfair.
LOL - "repeated" responses are because you keep deleting genuine feedback that doesn't suit the agenda of the firm.

You're allowing VA people to call ex-associates "servants" but deleting even honest, non-trollish comments that call out the bad stuff. You come once on the thread, you see the comment. One hour later, GONE!

Wow, just wow.

what's wrong with that? if it's significant, should it be hidden away because its been some time?

There are several associates in the market who boast of being gold medallists in their college which too is many years ago but still can't draft basic documents in the profession. They won't learn but expect to be spoon fed and will cry toxic at the drop of a hat.

A basic Google search reveals that the firm been around longer than most of you have been on this planet. So take a chill pill and focus on finding yourself a job.j

I have spent substantial time in the office so hopefully can provide some insight into the functioning and verify the bold claims being made here.

The Good:

1. The firm appreciates work life balance, it is and unsaid rule, but the associate partners and partners are not as bad as their counterparts in tier 1 firms. All of them spend good family time, are down to earth and generally happy. This is very very rare in a law firm. I genuinely cherished that and understood it better once I experienced other firms.

2. They pay you well if you are loyal and on cream matters. They have give 7+ Lakh bonus to people with 3-4 years of work ex. I have seen it and this is not heresay.

3. They give your bonus in 1 tranche, and do not defer parts of it, which happens in a lot of law firms.

4. Because of the above and work-life balance, some of the people are genuinely good himan beings.

The Bad:

1. The firm is a one man show by Mr. Bomi Daruwala, and where there is concentration of power, things aren't always great.

2. People are paid very less as compared to other tier 2 law firms. The concentration of power leads to profits being distributed in a waterfall mechanism. Associates bear a major brunt.

3. You will not be exposed to cream work, Vaish โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ. The ones they do are staffed with limited resources and are overworked, but often given handsome bonuses.

4. โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ It is a predominantly tax firm.

5. The โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ.

6. The ringmaster is โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ.

The ugly:

1. The ringmaster conducts โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ as the owner of the firm, โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ

2. โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ keeps track of your evening breaks, lunch breaks and even pee breaks.

In terms of pay 50000. In terms of work not much. In terms of culture healthy but strict.
Good place- quality work, good firm for direct tax and some exposure of corporate work. Supportive bosses however strict with discipline and timings. Overall nice place.
50k per month for freshers (net is 45k). Imagine taking a flat on rent in say Karjat, Shelu, Vangani, Badlapur, Kalyan or Dombivli and commuting via Central Line everyday to Parel/Currey Road.
Thanks Legally India for deleting all negative comments that categorically called out all that is wrong with the firm, and posting just simping comments.

Totally serves the purpose of this platform. Well done.
Please do not go blindly by what few people say. Every firm has some minor issues, itโ€™s about being professional at work. One needs to be professional and on time, what if it were a court hearing? You had to be on time.

Secondly, with regards to work flow, itโ€™s a general recession trend going on- sometimes work is insane, sometimes itโ€™s good enough. If one has decided to malign someone, they will speak 2 bad against 8 good points.

Look, it is pretty simple. Itโ€™s an ideal place to be in. Maybe not in terms of pay when compared with the biggies, but yes an ideal place when you want a decent work life balance and a learn at a decent pace.

Most of the kids who are cribbing here have either left in a year or monthโ€™s time or are preparing to leave.

These kids donโ€™t even know the basic of law and treat the place as if they are in a 9-5 job. Passion, seriousness and responsibility is lacking in majority of the Associates but few.

Even if they use the brand of VA and enter into Biggies, they will soon be exposed. Those who lack basic ABCD of law and canโ€™t work on one transaction properly, and canโ€™t handle things such as scolding/venting out by seniors professionally- they are expecting to make switch to places where theyโ€™ll be expected to work on complex cross border high stake transactions- all the best!

While every one has right to make their own decision of switching or not, without prejudice to it- it is highly unethical to come to an anonymous platform and vent out your frustration. If you have any problem talk to the management, if they donโ€™t listen you are free to switch. Why all these unnecessary defaming and gossips like kids.

Like every law firm, VA also has some flaws. Not everyone is a Demi-god, there are some flaws with everyone. But why do you take things personally, at the end itโ€™s a work place and people there are not your family- just go there, work and come back. Keep it professional. Deal with these issues at your level for it is omnipresent and inevitable, instead of coming here and venting like kids. If any one scolds you for no good reason, god has given you a tongue too.

Be practical.
I have worked at many mid-sized law firms like Vaish where there is a distinct absence of middle rung-ers (SAs-PAs) who are in the trenches with associates like you and help mentor the new joinees.

In such places, partners are your direct reports and they have been so desensitised to the attrition โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ

Usually that's how it is unless you are a Class-A suckup or extraordinarily bright (which you'd be self aware to know you're not considering you're asking for joining advice on an anonymous, public forum whose users thrive on controversy)

I'd suggest you play your cards well and think about a backup plan for your future.

No relationships are truly equal but the good ones are at least reciprocal. So try to gauge that during your interview and good luck!
Is this the way you do market intelligence. You seems to be only active on social media. If you accept the offer and join, hope once you join you will provide more gossip on Legally India. All the best.

And is unfair use of power and exploitation, when one person is in no position to defend themselves alright? The people being publically shamed have earned the disgust geld by others towards them by their own wrongdoings. It's high time these things came to light.
A 8-word comment posted 10 months ago was not published.
Legally India this is not fair. And without any filmy tone, I feel it's really bad of you to censor ground reality, while a loyal employee of Vaish has been posting all the cream and gleam of the firm which you're allowing.

If the stories of associates sound exaggerated to you, then so are the praises.

Please don't do this. For god's sake the kid's career/life is at stake.
Sorry for the lack of a better way to say this but the firm has โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ

A more dignified option would have been to let this thread slide and die down, but by responding in such a petty manner, they've worsened their image more than what any negative review can do.

VA has amazing exit opportunities. More than dozen people have landed up at big firms after spending some time in VA (Mumbai specifically) in last one year.

Itโ€™s true that, average life span of new hires in the firm is constantly reducing.
A 111-word comment posted 10 months ago was not published.
Publicly defaming an individual to settle your personal grouses is not right.

The other person is not here to defend himself and tell his side of the story.
You are choosing a bride or what. Should I join this or not. Simply join, why did you apply at the first place.

โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ Itโ€™s a place to work. Join and work, for the minimum expected period and then take a call.

You cannot expect any legal form to be suana spa, where you come at any time, leave at any time, and go out for picnics lunch evey while. Be professional, be loyal, be honest, be hardworking, you will do well.
I worked with Bomi Sir, Martand Sir, Hemant Sir, Sandhya Maโ€™am, Yatin Sir, and Krishna Sir. They were really great people to learn from. Thatโ€™s the positive side.

Beside these there is few in efficiency which I believe that exist, which is curable, and the management has to understand. One of them being salary which is 60% less than industry stand at A0 -A2 level; timings should not be monitored et centra.
That is your outlook. The firm has partners who have stayed for 20+ years. Many associates at A2 level. Many good people also join us. If you โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ left, please donโ€™t sour around and vent your inefficiencies.
Loyalist and integrity is the key.

If you have issue, you can talk to the people, and solve it and get it resolved.

Here, it is merely bad mouthing which is not ethical.
Vaish is one prestigious firm with quality work. Vaish focuses on quality work and so the work taken by it is very creamy and rich. You get to be a part of good transactions, and you get exposed to a variety of transactions. Yet, what is expected out of you is loyalty and professionalism. Be on time, avoid gossips, and work diligently. If you follow this much, you can learn work in Vaish very fast. As you are a new joinee, i am assuming you are a fresher. You should surely take up this job.
This post has been taken very seriously at Vaish. The senior partners had a meeting on Monday to have a discussion regarding this thread. There is a massive hunt going on to find who have posted answers on this thread and associates are being targeted round the clock. The last 3 days have been awful at the office. โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ The firm has even asked their IT guy to track developments in office laptop. This is the ground reality.
Ex Vaish:

I worked at VA, Mumbai for 1.5 years. Almost all the allegations are true and not even exaggerated. The pay is below the industry standards and the work environment is worse, โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ. There are seniors with 10+ years of experience at the firm and then there are mostly freshers, so there's a huge gap which never gets filled up.

โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ

The firm has seen so many people leave due to their own doing, and now they are paranoid because of the high attrition rate, which has led them to become even more weird and toxic in their antics.

At the Mumbai office, the corporate team is a one man army. โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ apart from Mr. Bomi daruwala.
Believe me I am saying this out of my own experience so far at Vaish Associates, Mumbai as it has been few months since I joined the corporate team of this firm.

The best part of VA Mumbai is that they do provide room for growth and a good work life balance.

Additionally, in reference to a particular incident, I was working on one of the assignments in which the partner clarified every silly doubt of mine at literally any point of time and not screamed on me like the negative comments here are stating.

If you are capable, you would be entrusted with other assignments like an opportunity to get yourself engaged in the newsletters and knowledge management sessions.

Therefore, be more open to pushing your limits, constructive feedbacks and learning in the initial years of your career.

4. โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ

5. โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ
Legally India, this is not fair. You can't moderate comments to the points where most things are censored and the comments makes little to no sense.

These are genuine experiences of people, you can't invalidate them at the behest of the firm.
Having worked at Vaish Delhi in the corporate team, I can say that Vaish Mumbai is much better in all respects. Mr. Bomi Daruwala is an excellent lawyer, and you can learn a lot from him. The other lawyers are essentially Mr. Daruwala's supporting cast. It would be a good experience, if you are starting out.

If a firm took its associates on an off-site during Covid, all the woke & delicate associates would scream bloody murder....

An off-site is not to show the world that the firm exists, but to show the associates that it exists for them and because of them.

Sour grapes, huh? Looks like you weren't invited....

It's less than a law firm and more of a practicing company secretary firm
With this attitude, it will be difficult to survive in any law firm. Law firms are not meant to be a bed of roses. Be tuff and focus on work, and when no work on knowledge enhancement. Else do something else but law firm job.
1. Professionals in any firm are supposed to work while at while and not indulge in gossips.

2. Professionals are supposed to be tuff, off any criticism- take the constructive part and let go off unwanted comments.

3. Professionals focus on increasing their learning curve, not on other gossips.

Ones primary aim is learning, working and growing. Rest are secondary.

Please avoid coloring peoples mind.

You
Yea you can the pay is good and you get to learn a lot in your initial years. I know so many people who started their careers with this place at Vaish Mumbai and now are so successful in their profession.

They have literally made some big partners and principal associates in tier 1.
What are your options currently? People โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ and they judge you out of your first assignment which is very sad. Some partners are bullish and give personal comments. โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ

All those cribbing here, please consider joining the so called cream da cream Tyre 1- where theyโ€™ll call you up at 2 AM and humiliate you for full stops and comma; threaten to fire you if you donโ€™t work on weekend. โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ

At this stage your focus should be learning, be tuff and learn.
Itโ€™s a good place with decent amount of work. They do quality work and you learn directly from partners. Every place (more so Tier 1) will have some inefficiencies, but as far as you are learning and growing, you will have to ignore all this inefficiencies for eg. A told me this, B scolded me- if this is the attitude where you get punctured by every small comment - law firms are not meant for you. Tier 1 has more nonsense and politics- so if you want to learn, and can be thick skin- do consider this place.
