These are the following reasons why you shouldn't join HNLU at any costs:
1. Record number of hostel suspensions without a fair opportunity of hearings
2. โฎโฎโฎ sba that is team-b for the admin and also has a kitchen cabinet of its own to further their own agendas, instead of representing the student community as a whole.
3. Continuous threats of suspension, rustication, academic backs, withholding degrees, failing students in case of non cooperation/difference in opinion
4. One sided decisions by the administration, without any consultation with the students in matters concerning them
5. Randomly notifying new rules without any dialogue for mentally harassing students
6. No dissent allowed in the campus
7. Continuous mental harassment targeting students that raise their voices against administration
8. The admin aims to create a divide between batches and destroy the culture of a senior-junior relationship
9. The entire university is controlled by a bunch of bootlickers and yes men who serve the interest of the despot vc
10. Incompetent imported private administration trying to turn an open, democratic and vibrant student society into a police state
11. Most of the decisions taken are made with the ulterior motive to create unrest amongst students.
12. Status quo set by the previous administrations is changed just for the sake of it without any rationale or sensitivity towards the studentsโ interests.
13. Admin that puts their personal CVs above the welfare of the university
14. Nobody except the very inner circle is happy with the way things are shaping up. Even the faculties reel under continuous pressure to perform over their capabilities.
15. Those who do not agree to these dictators are demoted or even thrown out. Any faculty or staff members being soft on the students or their Interests are cornered and silenced. Survival for them is only dependent on how sugar coated they are towards the king.
16. In the garb of advancing academic excellence and gain a rank in India today ranking etc, all cultural, extra curricular and co curricular activities are halted and denied to students.
It's a joke for a university. Feel free to add more reasons
To the folks that made the post - โฎโฎโฎ
I have been a thorough witness to all this.
PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER HNLU IF YOU WANT MENTAL PEACE.
- academic underperformance
- disciplinary action
- internal SBA politics and rivalries
But that's like NLU 101 these days, be it WBNUJS or NUJS, this has been a recurring issue. Not to discredit the thought of having more transparency and freedom to voice opinions against admin, but the conclusion seemed a bit too extreme: "It's a joke for a university."
It's not a joke. Maybe you've got too big of a campus, too good of a placement, or too much of a state funding to see that there are likes of Christ and NMIMS that don't even compare, even after charging more than double the fee charged by HNLU.
I'd advise you to keep your rhetoric (read rant) issue-specific rather than targeting an institution as a whole.
Regards,
Batch of '28
Further, the fact that other NLUs are also facing issues of administrative control is no excuse to accept it or normalise it. This kind of an environment in a national law University is simply not acceptable, period. The very reason we are witnessing protests lately in all NLUs.
"Not to discredit the thought of having more transparency and freedom to voice opinions against admin, but the conclusion seemed a bit too extreme"
Not necessarily, the private universities that I mentioned are one of the top choices for candidates that are not able to clear CLAT and they are definitely better than the likes HPNLU or DNLU. I don't think there is a distinctive gap between NLUs and private unis to the extent that they're incomparable.
And please try to understand the context of the content published, I compared them to highlight that it's not a joke which was absurd of the OP to say.
Please refrain from publishing comments that are drawn from false interpretations.

Points 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 : Arm-twisting through new rules :
Point is self-defeating, does not deserve a response. Oppression of a working class of the university is oppression, this is a rant and the indicator of a โฎโฎโฎ bunch of kids cursing the sun when they point a magnifying lens at their own hand. All of these points are those where โpersonal comfortโ was challenged (barring the end-timing issue which died a glorious death when everyone including the baton-holders of the 2018 protest had to leave home for vacations the third day). Recall when, how long and how many spoke up for each cause, then light up your J and cave back.
Points 2, 6, 8, 10, 11, 16 : Oppression (?) of the student body :
Really? Really?! Not one Batch has an affinity towards the other, as of today. All the Batches are the worst anarchical skid mark the lockdown left and you all have ZERO SENSE OF COMMUNITY. It is a shame that in a 20-year old Uni there are still only 3-4 alive student-run initiatives, the frontrunners of which also have no hopes for the Uni, let alone the SBA. The insecure 5th years feel that they led the protest of 2018 when actually they were the crowd as first years that made up for filling the LSS, and did nothing to uphold its spirit in the past 5 years since it happened. The 4th years are โfocused on the careerโ but rat on their own seniors and for some joy the 2nd and 3rd years. The later two Batches below neither have nor feel the need of a context of what it meant to have strength enough to make winds change, neither are they interested. 1st year by your glorious compound effect are as insignificant as before.
You want things on the platter? Well, boo-hoo. With 900+ of you all and sub-50 of them, it is a โlawโ university, not McDonaldโs. Shitting a Yelp review at the end of college is easier than lending hand in your kitchen. Always has been.
Points 9, 12, 13, 14, 15 : CVโcentric, apathetic Admin :
No. VCV is not a Messiah. He is opinionated and is radical about his opinions, and he ups the institution the way he pleases, & the approach is golden for marketing half helpful for ground results and fully unpleasant. Yes, the faculties indeed are the most talented yet the worst sympathising lot in the Uni history. Placement records are minutely better not to their credit, Alumni efforts are a case study to DONโTS of alumni integration (when regular partner promotions have commenced since 2021) and everyone is indeed building their CV. So? You arenโt? Do you know the last VCโs tenure and what is different? And leave that, did you stand beside your SBA to change the irks? Your SBA has boot lickers because no one is behind them, they cower because you are not around the Academic Block, they are an evident failure because you were, and you are.
It is a university of brick and mortar. It is a workplace for the Admin and a 5-year home for you. You failed to thrive with your efforts to make it liveable and be the student of law you claim outside in you puffed CVs, when all that was needed was to not lay back/ be indifferent for the first four years until the ire reached you. You are the joke. You, are the joke.
Tone does not need to be so acerbic however, dear one. Your anger seems really invested and is justified but so is the fact that people in college and posting garbage are kids looking at this all more seriously than it is in the bigger picture, out of the college. (Also, every NLU sucks balls as of now, don't worry :P ).
At the offset, kiddish rants aside, HNLU is much better than it used to, on few objective fronts of this cold merciless world :P Can, nay, Shall it do way better than now, absolutely.
- To the Admin :
VC indeed is unilateral in his approach but credit where due, he has done far more than what HNLU got in the years before him. Yes, the (mostly) good and the (relatively) bad thing both is that he is unilateral. Massive contribution to the college infra, immense efforts to structurally align previous systems, blanket ban (and firing) on under-the-table antics should be genuinely applauded. At the same time, Library time cropping, moral policing in the girls hostel, comments like "the Uni is primarily responsible for education" (ugghh), curbing student initiatives to further own similar initiatives, getting a little unapproachable by placing (otherwise very able) Prof. Shankar amidst him and the students are points to rethink on. VCV also needs to realise that the faculties owing to his robust nature are losing spine under him and have a very different approach to furthering college's welfare. They do not have a free voice, and by their own choice and demerit. This all definitely needs introspection.
- To the students:
You all are actually the focal of the issues you just spilled and are capable of changing stuff. Do not rant until you've moved your feet towards Acad. Don't blame it on COVID. Don't blame it on "juniors ko respect nahi hai", "seniors help nahi karte". You're in college, you need substance first and the respect that latches to it later. Shove your ego up your beautiful Sunday Dosa-fed buttocks. There are enough concerned seniors (beyond 5th year) out there. Get context of the past and get going. And please, don't hate the place in a fad that it looks cool, you need to be much more mature if you're hurting so much.
- To inconsequential popcorn poppers here:
People think that overall developments in a place should be directly proportional to getting ahead of your one-up like NLIU-GNLU, but creating a farther gap between HNLU and RML-NLUO-MNLU is also a win in its own way and should not be completely disregarded. HNLU still stands where it does, but is its height the same? Absolutely not.
HNLU is as good a place as you'll make of it. Mostly you won't make of it, so comment again next year same time with hopefully better woes!
