For example, what will the company which paid 18.5 crores to buy Sam Curran get back in return? It’s not like he will advertise their products on TV and even if he does he is nowhere as popular as Virat/Virushka.
Google the owners of PK who bought the player. 18.5 crores is literally like dust for them. The money invested in such biddings is not really for profits or media rights. They have much bigger businesses for that.

Basically this investment is for brand value/ TRP. It's about big money leagues and industrialists' networking . Something like playing golf and betting some money on it, only for the mega ultra rich. Also for major investors to feel like they are winning something when the trophy is given, raising their confidence and therefore the value of a stock.
They get a cut from stadium bookings, ad revenue etc. Plus valuation of a club increases. KKR was valued 450 cr at a time now it's over 3000 cr.. main money is in the valuation game
Just a plaything for them. Like billionaires giving tips of 10 lakhs to strippers and hookers.
