I posted a topic on LI with the front pages of the Kolkata newspapers today, which spoke about the controversial new universities bill making Mamata becoming VC of all colleges in Bengal. For some weird reason LI censored it. Surely this deserve the separate discussion? Moreover, it is something of national importance, because a major NLU is now being directly controlled by a political party and the CJI will no longer be Chancellor.

Really weird that LI allows random topics about politics but is not allowing this major discussion.

PA informs me that Lord Taluk had received complaints alleging that NKC's qualifications also had shady tales/tails. The complainant, unlike me, wasn't anonymous. It also spoke of certain inquiries by Calcutta University, including those relating to financial impropriety against NKC. Other complaints detailed NKC's shenanigans in KIIT Law.

But all those were suppressed by Lord Taluk and PA fears that those letters were likely destroyed quietly.

Possibly none do. Interestingly it is something that the Dept of Personnel under PMO (which is the admin ministry for RTI Act, 2005 and CIC) has repeatedly advised. While none of the edu institutes upload inquiry reports, many proactively give info as required under RTI Act 2005.

At the very least why is NUJS reversing the gains achieved by the SJA earlier? Why are annual reports missing? Why are EC/AC/FC/GC minutes and agenda notes missing? Since the inquiry reports were discussed and (supposedly) action taken in such meeting (and part of the agenda notes), those should be made available on the website.

Just because many or most edu institutions are opaque, why should NUJS join the herd? By your logic, NUJS should follow the herd into terminal decline...and NKC heard you loud and clear.

You are the one who's claiming that 'actions' taken against certain people have been diluted by NKC. If he manipulated the agenda to ensure that EC wouldn't take any step against these people, then what action had actually been taken against them to begin with? Get your facts and arguments straight. Or are you conflating allegations with actions taken?

Why don't you start with disclosing your identity? Did you disclose full particulars when you "exposed" a rather particular prof's PhD but went quiet when it was pointed out that another professor who also did doctorate from NBU also had similar issues affecting her thesis? Or what about another "Prof" (also your buddy) whose PhD thesis despite long gestation was repeatedly rejected by the famous NSG; only after "higher" intervention was his "registration" saved and the thesis was sent to a pliant Prof at NLS who had the PhD cleared?

I allegedly speak and write rot. But what were you and your friends doing in the EC/AC when the Justice (Retd) PN Sinha Inquiry Report was buried? When the illegal distance education courses were buried? When the money looted from the aggrieved students were not returned and your friends in the SDME ignored calls and emails? When the 2017 faculty recruitment inquiry report (a one-pager with no supporting documentation) was read out but not circulated to the EC members by NKC? The list can go on.

Why forge EC records when NKC and Co can manipulate what is even placed in the EC/AC/FC agenda; if placed, how far up or down the order and to what extent it is carried in the agenda notes; how late the agenda notes are dispatched to EC members and such other tactics?

Now that the EC/AC/FC is crafted in his image, NKC has reduced need for such tactics.

Check EC records for the "action" taken against RG, AR Acad and the "non-action" against VP. For better understanding of what these worthies did, why not tap the SJA? Oops, I forgot that the current SJA went progressively hollow after NKC took over (kudos to him and his acolytes as also the current SJA worthies) and therefore do not maintain "records" when the SJA audaciously went against the establishment.

How interesting! An inquiry instituted by the Cal HC and head by a retired Cal HC judge went no where. Successive VCs starting with PIB had the inquiry report buried. Even Lord Taluk cursed the then SJA for raking it up and collaborated with then AG (KB's blue eyed boy KD) and some other retired and serving HC judges to bury the report deeper. Now NKC has done "Drishyam" of all inquiry reports.

Faculty recruitment, especially in 2017, was riddled with glaring inconsistencies. A sharp sighted SJA got Lord Taluk to take notice of a complaint fwded by UGC. Lord Taluk unwillingly had to take it up with EC, which directed an inquiry. Taluk stalled and later NKC tried the same tactic. Finally NKC and KD submitted a one page inquiry report with no supporting document. Actually, NKC just read out the one-pager. It was not even included in the agenda notes of the EC!!

Before the EC could pursue the matter, key changes took place in the EC composition. The CJI nominee changed and some other positions were shuffled. Sab changa for NKC since then. COVID and a zombie SJA also helped.

Should this cabal split or face issues, things may change. Will NKC and Co also disappear, play victim etc? Will be fun.

Check the trajectory of those who spoke out against the PIB admin during the review commission process. Or in their limited way exposed details of maladministration before the inquiry committees set up by EC and then buried by Lord Taluk, KD and NKC and Co. Have you noticed how EC has been remade in the image of NKC. I know every VC does it. Some more successful than others. Still some of your answers lie in how EC, AC, FC is remade, what goes into the agenda of the meetings, how and what is minuted etc.

Why is it that so many people are interested this much about the website of a university? It is not as if a new university has come up! And some people here seem to be going on and on about internal NUJS issues regarding any and every thread about it, regardless of whether it has got anything to do with the topic discussed. Some of these people are obviously insiders, based on the comments. This is rarely the case with other NLU-related posts, where the few people discussing internal matters would be very obviously young students who do not know any better or have no other forum to discuss these issues. Student unity in NUJS collapsed the day cancel culture and woke polities was brought into everything. As a classic example, when Suchitra Vijayan filed her baseless complaint against a student, instead of everyone defending the student one section of students Supported Suchitra and demanded action against the student. Also, during the CAA protests the students who signed the pro-CAA petition were bullied and boycotted. How can there be student unity in a situation like this?

The fact that the SJA did not protest Vibhute’s appointment tells you what a sham it is. Lots of big talk about #MeToo and gender justice, zero action.

One does not need to file an RTI at Pune University or IIT KGP. Simplify file one at NUJS asking Whether past disciplinary actions against appointees are taken into account and whether Vibhute disclosed the actions taken against him. This will expose NKC.

Nobody's interested in the performance report of the SJA, that's only relevant for student elections.

Minutes of the meeting of the GC, EC, AC and FC are where all the important decisions by all the important people are taken. If you don't have access to those minutes, trust me, you have no clue what is actually going on in the University.

And these are official public documents that are covered under the Right to Information - which is how the past SJAs had gotten them out in the past. If they're hiding these documents again, they are taking you for a ride!

NUJS SJA was one of the most politically active student body at one point. The students used to be represented in almost every meeting of the EC, AC and FC. (Student bodies at NLS and NALSAR never had that level of reach/access).

The SJA that remains now, however, is just meek evaporating figment of that past, which doesn't have a slightest clue of how institutions work.

What exactly is your criterion for a 'good teacher'? Because I have graduated from NUJS in 2019 and I have had the opportunity to learn from several good and caring teachers. Saurabh was of course one of them. However, he was by no means the only one. There were the likes of Anirban Mazumdar, Sandeepa Bhat, Lovely Dasgupta, Faisal Fasih, Agnidipto Tarafder, Souvik Guha, Anuradha Roychowdhury, Ruchira Goswami, Mahesh Menon, Kumarjit Ray etc. Some of these people have left since then from what I heard, but not all. Having said that, I agree that the place should have way more people like these, and that there are several incompetent and lazy people masquerading as faculty too.

Arrey the MSc in Forensic Sciences is another scam/sham (take your pick) like the I-Plead-A-Lot courses. NKC was (and still is) under severe pressure from various quarters (and not limited to to "political") to honour the favours he got en route to NUJS VCship.

Pre-COVID and until certain EC changes (of NKC's liking) took place (that coincided with a certain judge becoming the CJI/Chancellor's nominee), poor NKC was facing a lot of flak (and questions) for trying to restart the distant edu courses, burying inquiry reports and ongoing inquiries, attempting dodgy recruitment etc. Pretty much a rerun of PIB.

But now sab changa. Through MSc in Forensic Science and the latest "faculty recruitments" NKC has tested the waters. It will be smooth sailing from hereon. At least till his EC friends stay on, especially the CJI nominee, the CJ nominee (the new CJ didn't tinker with it) and JB.

What about earlier Performance Reports? Is the upload optional? Is the submission of Performance Report optional? Or is Performance optional?

After hitting high notes YoY since 2012, SJA's terminal decline coincided with the appointment of its current VC. By then internal fissures of SJA had begun to show and soon the wheels started coming off. Political posturing, lapping up to the powers that be (don't make it Red v Green v Saffron etc) and plain simple self-interest took over. Faculty were also happy that a bothersome SJA could now be toyed around.

2019-20 was the last time NUJS had an actual SJA. The SJA over the past two years has been inactive, passive, and plain lazy. There wouldn't be enough to fill a page so forget about a work report. Anything that has happened last year such as the auditorium renovation, is due to the work of the 2019-2020 SJA, not the current ones.

The performance for the next year and till May 2022 has been just as good. If certain things could not be done it is because of the pandemic. Haters are just bringing their personal rivalries here.

What about hosting the Review Commission Report and various Inquiry Reports that have already been (un)covered by LI earlier? What about the Inquiry Report commissioned by the Govt of WB? Also wouldn't it make sense for NUJS to upload all RTI queries received and answered till date? Reduces hassle and repeats.

I am pretty sure some SJA worthies were involved (as part of broader suck up) with the "establishment" in this cosmetic exercise. Lap....process complete! Congratulations!

He is also the Registrar's patron. Check records. It was on his suggestion that SS was appointed in a highly irregular manner that Lord Taluk later had regularized. Later Lord Taluk organised SS' son's internship with JB's brother, also a HC judge now. You probably know that it was JB as the then CJ of Cal HC who recommended his little bro's name and then got the HC Bar to pressurize the SC collegium when the elevation got held up initially. SS continues till date due to the benevolence of JB.

JB is also the state Law Min's law college buddy.

Also never ask "stupid" questions concerning retired judges being appointed to Professorial Chairs etc. You failed to question why they got the judicial Chair in the first place.

KIV is an old pal of NKC. Connect the dots. Don't be surprised if he is made the Ford Chair although my bet is that it will continue to be sinecure for regime friendly judges. Previously KIV attempted to get a professorial position at NUJS but his can of worms undid things. Now with NKC and Kalyan Banerjee in the GC (effectively in charge of the univ ever since his blue eyed boy lost the AG position), anything is possible.

NUJS has put all Forensic Science faculty of courses like Toxicology, serology etc. to increase number of faculty in department. There is still acute shortage of law faculty. Also, listing Manoj Sinha as a professor is the height of dishonesty, as the man left ages ago. I am SHOCKED that Khushal Vibhute has been appointed as Distinguished Visiting Professor. This man was expelled from Pune University [...], on the recommendation of a committee headed by a Bombay High Court judge. WTF is going on???? Is the SJA sleeping??? First of all, shame on Ishwar Bhat and Amit Talukdar for nearly a decade of having a crap website with no info. A website is a colleges face to the world and NUJS has lost a lot of points in PR and image building because of this. This no doubt reflected in the NIRF ranking, where NLUD and NALSAR overtook NUJS and even NLUJ in one year. There should seriously be a CBI enquiry against what happened under the tenure of these two.

Secondly, even though I am not a fan of NKC at least credit should go to him for being better than the last 2 VCs.

Thirdly, a lot of rich info about the college's legacy is missing and should be added: Nobel laureate like Sen, Sitgliz and Satyarthi have spoken here, as have APJ Abdul Kalam, Narayan Murthy, Fali Nariman, Marc Galanter, many others. These pics should go. The mooting achievements should be highlighted too.

Fourthly, there needs to be better industry links and good NLU alumni as guest faculty, like Sudhir is doing at NLSIU, and this needs to be publicised the website.

Finally, the SJA needs to be more pro-active and have a strong social media presence, like Sudhir is doing at NLSIU.
