Generally one of the reasons why so many companies get registered instead of a single convenient company with umpteen departments just like the companies,is to use the shell companies for ringfencing an activity or business.So of one company crumbles or comes under scrutiny the other companies don't.For example,hypotheticallyin some case CAM is digitally hacking a sexual harassment victim or informant through pansy premises,then they will stalk her and follow her oftsixaly through wildflower Ltd.So even if the illegal actions of pansy premises of digital illegal hacking are discovered, the illegal actions of physically following the same woman are not automatically discovered

SPV is for the family investments and the law firm is a cool tool for family to do wealth generation They buy properties,rent it to their own "law" firm at rates they want and these glorified spineless servants who claim to be "lawyers" and "partners"(What a joke that is!!!!!!!) of law firm will not be "partner" enough ever to object.Bar Council of India does not do anything to such firms.Still the fact is so many companies registered to law firm address is just dubious shady business.

Sir, an “SPV” is exactly that - a vehicle generally established with the special purpose of pooling investment funds with minimum tax implication whilst ensuring sufficient ring fencing of different investments.

Now, please do elaborate what is the “special purpose” with which the various entities were established at the same office as that of CAM.

Before you jump on the “marquee investment firm” bandwagon once again, do realise that neither the Shroff’s nor CAM are authorised by any Indian regulator to deal with investment funds of various investors.

Arre no,some PAs will be pacified with PA designate titles others will get the most to leave.Meanqmwhile the newly promoted partners will decide which PAs to keep for promotion and which can be replaced and to start looking for replacements.Meanwhile the bunch of PAs who are not to be promoted will be saddled with a Partner designate title or the new one "Director" and eventually when the replacement is ready these guys will be told your not good enough to become partner

Do you intend to declare to the world that a CAM PA is a glorified SA?

Or do you intend to declare to the world that one doesn’t need to be practical, or competent, or a capable team leader, or have any decent BD skills to become a PA in CAM?

Given that ppl like [...] and [...] have been promoted to partnership, it’s clear that all other firms apart from CAM have institutionalised basic standards for identifying capable partners and CAM continues to strongly believe that the only relevant criteria for promotion is brown nosing, grubbing or being related to LV.

Honestly, after [...] and [...] elevation as CAM partners, various partners of Magic Circle firms provided CSS candid recommendations for having some form of quality filter in place prior to “letting anyone and everyone with a pulse and ~9-10 years at CAM become a partner”. One could only have hoped that CSS wasnt foolish enough to ignore such recommendations, but clearly this years promotions tell a story of only brown-nosing being rewarded while years of hard work of deserving others is thrown out with the bath water! Shameful!

Ashwath leaving CAM is old history- days of olde as they say. While his entry to AZB may have been reason to celebrate there, AZB is not at the top. Sadly this constant need to project a single person as a demi god- the god of corporate law in India, the rain maker, the godfather ... ran out of movie references... is getting stale.
Its all about the money. Law as a practice is a business like any other professional service. The sooner everyone realises this and the fact that any and all socialist (free dole outs) concepts are not applicable in todays capitalist age, the sooner can people adjust to the new norm and make their own money.

15 partner exit? Wow. That too in such a market.CAM must be majorly facing the heat of attrition at this time given the pandemic. CAMs retention issues are pretty well known.Everyone knows the Aswath exit story.That one exit has put AZB on the number 1 spot. But frankly when the dough is rolling the owners are not gonna care at all even I'd attrition was a 100 percent.

Just because you are a PA DOES NOT mean that you automatically become a Partner. You need to have skills over and above that of a PA- BD, team leadership, practical thinking ... and so on. The ones made deserved it (well most of them) and the ones that did not probably did not have what it takes, or their practices did not create the need.

Last year there were 153 partners.This year with 22 promotions, that means the number of partners without countingbthis years promotions had gone down to 138 which means 15 partners exited CAM in 2021-22.Thata big wevn by CAM standards because exit of about 10 percent partners in a year is seriously high.
