Living in Mumbai is a struggle, from day 1 - finding apartments, being on a budget, and managing work (internship) and college expectations together will be very stressful and challenging.
While Pune is a much student friendly city, ILS has a decent campus, and it is as reputed an institute as GLC (if not more). ILS is surrounded by colleges like FTII, Gokhale, Symbi, Fergusson and Pune University. It offers a student-friendly atmosphere and lets you interact with a diverse crowd. It may allow you time to pursue your hobbies, hit the gym or play sports. Things like these are difficult to manage in Mumbai (especially as a student).
Pune may not have much to offer from a legal professional's perspective, but it hosts good tax lawyers, original side litigators (if you are well versed in Marathi), and a few law firms also have their offices in Pune. There are a few tax firms as well. Lectures at ILS mostly get over by 11:00 am, which allows students to intern on the side.
You will find a job sooner or later, but you will never get your college life back!
Plus the money saved!! You should opt for GLC blindly.
- The placements of ILS has gone downhill. - From 2023 they have shifted 3rd year batch to the afternoon slot because of which you'll not be able to do an offline internship since the college timings are from 11am - 4pm which is a major drawback.
- Additionally there are no law firms near college so one needs to travel long distance after the college hours + Pune's traffic makes it worse.
- 75% attendance criteria makes you loose on lots of opportunities. I, personally have missed lots of seminars, guest lectures etc to meet the attendance criteria set by the college.
- Very few moots are organized.
- Poor infrastructure

ILS’s placements are bad,really really bad and it will make you suffer with their 75% attendance criteria. It’s in pune so the exposure is also very very limited.

For the first 2 years i have had the opportunity to intern with Independent Practitioners and Senior Counsels full time, without having to worry about any college attendance (the requirement is 0) 3rd year was pandemic, though towards the end of it I secured another internship at a renowned real estate firm where I signed my Solicitors Articleship a couple of months later.
Now, after about 2 years of practice in real estate I can independently draft transaction documents like Leave and License Agreement, Release Deeds, Powers of Attorney etc and need minimal assistance while working on Conveyance Deeds, Development Agreements, Settlement Deeds. I have gone for registration of documents, dealt with sub registrars, search clerks etc.
I have learnt more law and the business side of it at my firm than i can even think of learning in any law school.
GLC also has one of the most sought after placement cells. One can have a look at the website.
GLC is good if you work hard and intern from day 1.
GLC will give you a good job if you do this.
I person would choose ILS and have a college life.
However, where GLC stands out is the exposure that students have with local law firms in Bombay- enhances your chance to get employed by interning/articleship with firms throughout your law school.
Although my heart suggests ILS but mind says GLC anyday.

The results of mhcet just came out and I got a rank good enough to get into both glc and ils. However I am confused because I've heard many negative things about glc, including its lack of infrastructure/ college life and affiliation to Mumbai University.
Could you tell me whether ils would be better for me in 2021? Thank you.
