I don't know much about Loans, but you could try cold-emailing famous professionals in the field. A lot of people I know are trying to crowd fund their education. There may be this stigma about taking money from someone and doing nothing in return - but that's not true. These professionals then claim tax exemptions and its a feel good mechanism for someone who is earning in crores - to pay for a passionate student's education. Show drive, passion, try to perform academically. If you do get financial support - try to keep them in the loop about your activities and achievements in law school - will made a great contact too. Maybe offer to be available for any work they have during your studies (although I don't think you'll be subjected to any work during semesters). A few names at the top of my head are Harish Salve, Kapil Sibal, Arvind Datar, Gopal Subramaniam, Abhishek Singhvi etc. The 1cr+ a month band. Try for some high earning advocates at your State's High Court too. Also find out about scholarships given by the state and central government (apart from the ones internally at your university). Alumni groups of many colleges either contribute to a scholarship fund, or take up the education of a few students every year - look into that.

You need to go to the Vidyalakshmi Portal. Register yourself alongwith your parents and then choose the bank that you know someone in. If you don't have contacts at any branch, go to the bank that you're about to select and ask for the procedure. You should tell them about the graduation outcomes and how you'll be earning good money post your graduation.
The process can sometimes be a pain in the ass but without collateral, it is a deal.
Plus SBI offers a lump-sum return policy, where you can return the entire loan early with a bit of an extra charge and you'll be debt free.

P.S: I have taken a loan from SBI without a collateral, and I'm not from NLS/NUJS. I'm from someplace better (LOL).

It is astounding how people with so little idea about the real world, would nonetheless jump to provide 'expert opinion' about everything. I have taken an education loan without collateral, did part time work throughout law school to keep up the interest payments, and paid the loan amount in full within two years from graduation. Without intervention from "finance folks". It is never too early to actually start learning how the banking system works in your own country.

Well banks do care about the name and prestige of college and hence when you go to their education loan page you'll find a list of universities on basis of tier.

Now coming to the question, I took a loan of 8.5 L in 2019 from Oriental Bank of Commerce. Don't know what's the status now after there merger with PNB. At that time UCO Bank was also offering loans for a lot of NLUs some bottom ones as well. SBI offers collateral free loans for studying in few NLUs.

SBI does offer its Scholar Loans (Collateral free loans at cheaper interest rates and other benefits) for Students from NLS, NLUD, NALSAR, NUJS and NLUJ. Don't avails the government through bank of baroda, they are the absolute worst and will not credit subsidy on time and keep on levying interest on interest at 8%. if anyone here has dealt with them previously let me know. I am very stressed about the loan I took from these guys

SBI offers education loan upto 20 lakhs without any collateral at 7.65% for NLS,NALSAR, NLUJ and NLUD. Upto 7.5 lakhs at 8.15 without collateral for NUJS. This is under scholar loan scheme.

You can also take a normal education loan at around 9% interest for any NLU but you will need to give collateral.

SBI used to offer education loans above 4 lakh INR to students who have gotten through NLS/NUJS (only) without any collateral deposit requirements back in 2014. Please check if they still offer the same.

Also, there is government scheme through the PSBs (Canara Bank being the nodal agency) where if the annual income of your parents is under a certain amount, the education loan is sanctioned without charging any interest for the duration of your education, and you are charged interest only after your moratorium period expires (6 months after graduating).

I am sorry but unlike all of us who study in/studied from NLU's, a bank official doesn't care if you're from a top 5 NLU. They just want collateral security.
Obviously would love to have a convo here about how a bank official should care about how we cracked CLAT (toughest exam, toppers should be given Nobel Prize) as an 18 year old and that we're now at a top 5 NLU based on "merit" so our interest rate should be lower than what anyone else pays

P.S. - best bet is to contact your uni's finance folks. They sometimes guide you to banks. You can try non-banks also but they usually restrict themselves to students studying abroad. Collateral is usually a must everywhere which could make personal loans cheaper than an education loan in some instances
