Nalsar has become a shitty place to be in, i agree on the fact that things like misogyny, homophobia, casteism has been normalised especially in groups living in BH. Lately this has not been just limited to hostel space but public spaces also. I hope person writing this thread gets a way out, there are still some people who care about you.

If you're in the boys hostel which is legit violent or used to be anyway, you need friends to help you through. Otherwise, try not to sweat small stuff that looks big right now. Many of us had a really hard time at Nalsar, but everything settles on the other side. Find coping mechanisms like something you enjoy and low investment easy hangs with classmates like a chai ritual, music, or some kind of sport on walking. That helps you bond without accidentally trauma dumping on them. If you are having a hard time with family, a nalsar degree might mean the financial independence that sets you free. Think about the long term.

The nalsar you probably were a part of is no more. The batches on campus have the reputational entitlement but do not want to be responsible enough to keep that reputation going. Mediocre set of people who are mostly always using AI to get through exams and projects, without any semblance of realisation about the larger implications of this culture of convenience that has seeped into the college. Batch of 2026 is particularly to blame, they want the "respect" of being seniors but have never acted like good seniors, always encouraging people to drink away/take it chill. A course correction is urgently required. Even alums are starting to realise the deteriorating quality of the batches and have raised concerns.

Team is generally good, people are reasonable, but Tanu has high expectations. Work is a mix of TMT advisory & M&A in media. Sometimes work is round the clock as in any Tier 1.

Ishan Johri is newly promoted to Partner in the team. She can be a bit tough to navigate.

Working directly with Tanu if you are very junior, might not come by easily, but if it happens you will learn a lot in few interactions.

Overall the work is good and the team culture is decent.

The only thing correct about this answer, which is what makes me feel like the Maths teacher marking the test paper of her favourite student and looking at a sum where he has started beautifully but ends up getting 1/5 because of fucking up, are six words you have used: "more than just bare legal knowledge" as an indication of what the types of law firms the OP is aiming at look for. The strongest way of showing the "bare legal knowledge" is a UK LLB. What you folks don't seem to understand is that just because they look at far more than this, doesn't mean an applicant can afford to have this foundation being weak. The fundamental first principles, foundations, whatever you like to call them, are far more important to them than you seem to realise. That's why even in the law firm applications they ask about A Level (or equivalent) grades. They might consider an NLSIU/NALSAR/NLUD/NUJS graduate as having a reasonably strong foundation requiring minimal retraining, but not for this person who is the OP of this post. And frankly, if I were them, I would say he has hit upon a long and hard, but ultimately worthy, road. This path proposed of doing Indian BALLB average + good foreign LLB (if it is possible to get it) is a good idea. It does not guarantee a MC/SC/biglaw job, but it is a much stronger foot forward than anything else the OP might choose to do. It also shows the OP willing to sacrifice aspects of their life - financial resources, time, energy, proximity from family and friends in being far away and the home comforts - to achieve what they want - and according to me, that is always something that looks good on an application.

My only word of caution to the OP: please don't take it for granted that you'll necessarily gain better marks in the foreign LLB. The expectations are high and good grades aren't easy to score, especially at the good UK unis. Be prepared to work your backsides off. If you hadn't done that at your Indian institute, pull all the mental resources together to do that if you do get a foreign LLB offer and take it up. You don't want a situation where you have a shitty Indian LLB and an average grade in your foreign LLB, because that is not likely to be too helpful either.

1. Basically, a lot of the scholarships (a) are set aside basis of financial aid for UK households; and (b) are of small amounts (a couple thousand pounds here and there).

2. Or alternatively, you might have scholarships for specific things like exceptional performance in your academic studies prior to coming to your UK university (or even exceptional performance while you are there) or other things, like if you want to practice or do pro bono volunteering in specific areas. Again, not very large amounts, at most a few thousand pounds.

It really depends on what arrangement(s) each uni has. Look up the LLB funding websites of various unis and see what you can avail yourself of.

Also, a trap to avoid: Many unis have a degree called the "LLB Senior Status". A two-year, faster version of the typical three year programme. Avoid at all costs. You need time to learn certain things, and two years usually isn't enough for that. Plus, while this wouldn't apply to you because of your Indian degree, the BCI does not recognise two-year qualifications, at least from what I last heard - haven't kept up with the rules because I am continuing to do stuff in the UK post LLB and the thought of having to go back is not really on the cards for me.

OP, don't engage with people who write such comments. Somehow, anybody who wants to do any sort of study in the UK makes many Indian lawyers very angry. Kicks off inferiority complexes in their heads. Just leave them alone. If you can succeed, you can succeed. If not, then not. They don't matter either way. I havev achieved a high 100 air in clat, and have been allotted to nlu jodhpur; however I find myself to be quite dissatisfied with this.

While I am entirely aware of nluj's calibre, stellar placements and mooting achievements, I've always been attached to the sheer prestige that schools such as nls and nalsar hold (which nluj simply does not have). I also incidentally happen to be a citizen of the UK, and am expecting around 98% in my board exams, thus making me eligible for the nalsar foreign national quota.

In my case, finances are not an issue (but parents do not believe in "quotas" And insist merit only), and I believe the hefty tuition is worth it for an institution of nalsar's stature. I'm committed to the hustle and am sure of my abilities to earn the money back.

My contention is whether nluj to nalsar is big enough of a jump to justify a 6x fees.
