The Bar Council of India (BCI) and Maharashtra State Bar Council has cleared GLC Mumbai and all the other Maharashtra government and aided colleges that were under embargo against taking admissions. As per the minutes of Saturday, 3 September’s BCI meeting the colleges can take admissions for the academic year 2016-2017.

The Bar Council of India rejected Maharashtra’s request for time to meet its Legal Education Rules on infrastructure of government and aided law colleges in the state, with the result that those colleges will not be able to take admissions this year, reported the Times of India.

On 11 August, Bar & Bench had reported that NLU Delhi political science associate professor Dr Maheshwar Singh had gone on a hunger strike, alleging that his application for professorship three years ago had not been considered fairly without having even been notified of rejection.

Calcutta University's Hazra Law College students are protesting the Bar Council of India (BCI)-recommended dress code rules that appear to have been implemented by the university, reported the Statesman , with students having written a letter to the university's vice chancellor that they would not abide by the fashion restrictions.

GNLU Gandhinagar will now complete its disciplinary proceedings against third year LLB student Jaymin Brahmbatt through an external inquiry committee which will decide whether Brahmbatt is guilty of cheating on a university exam. Brahmbatt will be allowed to proceed to the fourth year of LLB pending the enquiry.

GNLU Gandhinagar rolled out seats in its second year LLB class, for students of other NLUs, on 24 May but by 7 June, after interested students had already applied for admission the law school rolled back the offer due to objection from the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) committee.
