(Go)Indigo has a new GC: Gibson Dunn counsel Priya Mehra joins from Singapore with associate Bahadur

Indigo has hired a new general counsel (GC) with Gibson Dunn & Crutcher Singapore-based of counsel Priya Mehra, reported Bar & Bench.

She will be joining the airline with Gibson Dunn associate Bharat Bahadur, who will join as principal legal counsel.

Indigo has been ramping up its in-house team this year, with J Sagar Associates (JSA) partner Akshay Nagpal having joined in April as an associate GC.

(And, as an aside, in October Indigo was rather famously the beneficiary of a caustic and rather amusing Bombay high court order by Justice GS Patel against its rival GoAir).

Mehra began her career at AZB & Partners in 2002 after graduating from Delhi University and moved to Jones Day Singapore in 2007.

In 2008, Gibson Dunn had poached her as part of the 10-lawyer team headed by Jones Day partner Jai Pathak.

Bahadur had joined Gibson Dunn from AZB & Partners in 2013, where he’d worked since graduating from Amity Law School Delhi in 2005.

Mehra told Bar & Bench that her move was an “exciting opportunity” to “get a feel of the business side after being the other side for more than 14+ years”.

Jai Pathak is the brother of P&A Associates managing partner Anand Pathak. Jones Day, in turn, was the former best-friend relationship firm of P&A, but that arrangement ended around three years ago.
