2015 NUJS batch of 106 secures 100% placements, ‘overwhelming’ 78 jobs through RCC

Noojies 2015: Happy batch
Noojies 2015: Happy batch

NUJS Kolkata’s class of 106 students graduating this year secured 78 jobs on and off campus, all 78 jobs being bagged by the 78 students who participated in on-campus recruitment (CRC).

Domestic law firms hired 49 of the 78 students, including 28 “Big 7” firms’ offers and 29 pre placement offers (PPO). The next biggest chunk of the class – 14 students – opted for in house roles.

Three students will join the LLM program at Cambridge, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences and one other domestic law school, while one student got through an MBA program.

No students have been selected for a judicial clerkship from this batch yet, but one has applied and is awaiting results.

The class of 2015 marginally trumped the record of the class of 2014 in terms of total jobs, big six jobs and foreign law firm jobs.

RCC: Extremely pleased
RCC: Extremely pleased

CRC coordinator Samkit Sethia said, in the press release: “We are extremely pleased and satisfied to have achieved the target of hundred percent recruitment. We not only had the top six law firms and our regular recruiters but also a whole bunch of first-time recruiters who came on campus after we engaged and connected with them.

“The average annual salary package offered by foreign law firms is around INR 38-44 lakhs. Top domestic law firms have offered an average package of around INR 15-20 lakhs, while the average package of our recruiters has been in the INR 8-12 lakh range. Overall, we get the feeling that all recruiters who came on campus or conducted off-campus interviews were extremely pleased with the quality and skills of the candidates.”

CRC member Jay Sayta added in the release: “We did not anticipate this kind of overwhelming response from recruiters. This has probably been one of the best recruitment NUJS or any other law school for that matter has ever witnessed in terms of absolute number of people recruited. CRC has ensured that we not only cater to the needs of the students aspiring to work in the corporate sector, but also help other students not intending to take desk jobs in their pursuits. CRC, for instance organised two interactive sessions: one with an alumni who has achieved success in litigation and politics and another with a senior Principal Secretary in the West Bengal government.

The CRC team of 2015 had the following coordinators and members: Akshay Sewlikar, Akshay Sharma, Aniket Ghosh, Antara Priya, Arjun Bhagi (coordinator), Arnav Mohanty, Pooja Dadoo, Rishabh Sharma, Roopali Adlakha, Sahana Ramesh, Jay Sayta, Samkit Sethia (coordinator), Vaibhav Verma and Vijayaraghavan.
