Pointing out every single issue that the student body has faced in the whole "Sudhar era" at NLSIU-

1. Academics -

Low Cgpas, Arbitrary moderations - It is true that the passing grade for a subject was reduced and C and C+ grades were introduced but the passing criteria remains the same. Its essentially for every C or C+ you get in a subject you need to compensate by getting a higher grade in other subject. For example - For every C you need A grade to compensate as to maintain your passing grade points. This was primarily done to reduce repeat exams stress that administration had to face in a packed trimester system and there was absolutely no regard for the student body. On the face of it, this may seem like an ingenious idea but you couple it with arbitrary moderations, a policy that was not notified neither when is applied to grades is told, in such a system to a get a higher grade is extremely tough since there are only certain students who can get higher grades, on an average approximately 60-70% class is always marked between C - B+ grade. Teachers have gone on record to say that they are instructed to mark less and later moderation is applied to even those grades. It is extremely tough for students in their 1st and 2nd years as you are given way lesser courses to make up for a C or C+ grade and the same can be seen in the trends as this year over 40+ students got a year back at NLS in the first year. That's approximately 1/4 of the batch held back.

Attendance - What to say about this, in an already packed trimester based system, the admin's approach to attendance is rather satanic. There are absolutely no attendance condonations provided at NLS apart from medical condonation. You do any co-circular activities or extra co-circular activities, you need to miss classes. For an example, if you participate at an international moot court competition which usually lasts 2 weeks, you miss around 12 hours of attendance in a course, that leaves you with only 3 more hours of classes you can miss across the trimester, that is basically one day of class, imagine going on an international stage, winning your college accolades only to be told that the same caused you to get hold up for a year. You fall ill, that's your problem because medical condonations are given only in cases of (as quoted from university guidance note) "In view of this, it is clarified that medical condonation shall be provided only for hospitalisation or persistent and severe illness. " and you need to submit "Students who seek medical assistance or are hospitalized outside the University Health Centre, please get all relevant documents including diagnostic reports, medical prescriptions and Hospital Discharge Summary verified by the University Doctor, and submit the verified documents along with the online application within 6 days of resuming classes." Even when you do submit these documents with proper verification, this can be rejected by the AAD or UGC chairman arbitrarily as according to them its an academic decision and can be assessed by them only since according to them their opinion is much more important than a qualified medical practitioner. They are so stringent as to attendances that there are instances of people being held up for an entire year in their 5th year because they were short of 1hour of attendance in a course and their medical was rejected. That person literally had to come back after a year to attend 1 hour of class to get his degree.

Faculty - There is absolutely no contention to the point that Sudhir has brought upon extremely qualified faculty to the college, Young professors are great. Guess what though as a hypothetical just imagine a professor who has done his phd in Labour law, the same guy might turn up to teach you corporate law, all these amazing young professors often teach courses that they have no expertise in, its not about their calibre but often especially in junior batches profs take classes in subject they haven't even specialized in. There was a prof who specialized in health law but mas made to taught International Law and Criminal Law in two successive trimesters. Poor fellow Literally had to read herself and get taught before class and when often asked in depth doubt in class, she simply could not answer since her knowledge of the subject was limited to what she taught in her university several years ago. NLSIU is hiring anyone and everyone with International Phd and they are being made to teach anything and everything. Gone are the days when you would have nation's best academician in subjects teaching you. Also on a side note, once check the number of hirings from azim premji cohort of faculty and the same place happens to be our VCs last workplace, favouritism?

Academic rigour - For a top university its extremely important to be academically rigorous and Sudhir did bring in a lot of reforms but you need to understand how tough it is to survive in a trimester system. Approaches taken are also way one sided. When the whole chatgpt boom happened, the college decided to introduce a continuous evaluation scheme, wherein a 3000-4000 word paper you already submitted, you now had to submit 1000-1500 outlines as well, and multiple compulsory consultation to add to that, they wont buy turnitin and other software to catch a few who cheat but rather make students life tougher in name of academic rigour. Not only that even teachers cant cope up with this much work, they often take your vivas without even reading your projects. Being a professor at NLS is tougher than a corporate job at this point. Also at NLS the maximum percentage you can get is 90% which is at 7 CGPA, no one in the history of NLS even our great Rhodes scholar VC have gotten that, batch toppers are at generally 6.2 Cgpa, 99% of student at NLS are below 80% of marks with 80% lower than 70%. You cant write judiciary exams, MBAs, foreign LLms despite being in top 25% of your class at Top law school in country. Compare to other law schools, the grades you get in law school despite working 10 times harder than any other law graduates will always be lower and the world as a fact doesnt really know the mystic world of NLS's academic rigour, so you will be just seen as someone with poor acads.

2. Student Life at NLS - LoL what

Must have heard about strawberry fields or maybe spiritus or perhaps le gala when you were studying here. Gone were those days. There happens absolutely no college cultural activities, no real celebrations of anything, no fests, few things that happen only 50-60 students show up to it because literally student body consists of brain dead zombies now. Whatever few things that they do allow are subject to ridiculous conditions, like no events post 9, not even sports lol. They do come up with interesting concepts to sound more like fancy white unis like newly introduced COLLEGES, but that's also a façade. Any committee whatsoever when think about orgainising an event, they start getting nightmares because dealing with this admin is impossible. Sudhir did create lot of posts like COO, Chief of staff, SWO, Residence officer, people officer and what not but what these people do nobody knows because every one of them will send you to the other one of them to eventually come back to the one with which you started, believe me you would love SBI's functioning more, administration structure is so pathetic that a tier 3 city government office will seem more efficient. They have shit tons of committees also like Residence team, DCRL, ARC, you appeal to any one of them and they wont respond ever because they just work on a tactic that delay as much as possible so you wont have to solve.

As pointed out there are absolutely no fundings for any sort of moots, nego, debates. This has made things so elitist that same 50-60 students do everything, people despite top ranks cant take up international competitions because our VC thinks everyone has stacks of cash lying around their homes. They do pay for your reg fees lol (only reg fees, if it inclusive of things like acco they will go to any extent to only give the registration component of it) but getting it again is tougher than getting a loan from SBI. Funding is one thing, there is no support at all, people have literally given international moot rounds from garage sheds because university wont open up library for them or even provide a private space to prep. You can book fancy rooms in our fancy library through our fancy portal, but getting it approved takes more time than making a memo.

3. Infrastructure - NLS will buy you a fancy table to sit at in mess but will not give you a bed to sleep in.

Sudhir spends money in this college as if he is designing his pet interior design project. This year almost all master batches and most local residents were not given acco in university because simply there isn't any. Your perfectly fine room furniture, mess furniture, other furniture have been changed to make college look more aesthetically pleasing, we do have a very fancy library and beautiful garden but water coolers wont work, your rooms will flood in rains because of poor construction, there will be no drinking water or even water for days at end but there is a v fancy library because thats where sudhir poses for his PR. The university infrastructure cant handle the enormous amount of people we have started to admit. Money is still being spent on external beautification rather than fixing internal problems. They randomly throw people out of college to make space for others. Even to switch on ACs in class you need to knock 20 doors and only if the temperature is more than 32c that too at 26c setting, believe me we do have that policy lol. Committees literally have to pay uni out of their event budgets to book university property imagine.

There is so much more wrong with this college right now and almost everything that has been mentioned in this thread is true. NLS is going to the dogs. We have higher fees than any other NLUs now. Administration apathy cant be described in words. Please of you do consider giving CLAT go to NALSAR or NUJS, dont torture yourself, dont ruin your life.
