After all, most partners are still toxic, bullying students at heart! The raggers of yesterday are the equity partners of today!
Salary partners parasite on other teams including corporate or tax or cap markets or become execution partner doing all the good work for the equity.
Generally salary partners in early years not much expected to bring clients but just to execute and generate billable.
Everything dynamic is subjective depending upon the firm and team structure.
There is this partner who doesn’t have her/his own clientele but is essentially vulturing over the work given by people in higher management (there is no real management, just one dude controlling everything).
Basically, they put these kinds of partners on a PIP. I was also surprised because I always thought these law firms were experts at removing/firing associates lower down the professional chain who were unable to deliver work on time or whose work or behaviour did not align with the firm.
But yes, PIP. They give partners who are not meeting their targets some time to improve and also try to train them, basically. (Rather, they should give this training and development to associates instead of someone who doesn’t know anything and has somehow become a partner.)
