As for this. That's partly false. A huge part of North India especially Northwest indeed wore blouses / it's precursors known as sthanapattika. There is evidence from Mauryan era itself. And even in regions of India where it was not worn, back then they didn't consider the breast as a sexual organ. But now it is, and people have to cover it properly for decency sake
And yes each and everyone indeed have the right to comment their thoughts in her attire
So a lot has been written by many scholars on the above topic, the problem is not only obscenity but also the objectification in the name of choices and somehow imposing the fashion choices of West upon India through subtle marketing and the right wing has pointed it out which made sense to a large section of population hence the retreat.
So in a comment someone has argued that go to Jindal or other Top college it is a very normal dress.
However Jindal belongs to India and the right wing was simply saying (impliedly) that the Ad does not reflect Bharat.
India that is Bharat or Bharat that is India. In my humble opinion, India and Bharat still are two different realities.
The ad team must have realised that they were unable to sense the culture prevalent in India and that it is impossible to defend it after a group calls it out because 99% of population will not wear that Dress during Rakhi and I would be glad to be corrected if Kurti/ Saree has been replaced by Bralette in India that too especially during Traditional ocassion.
Now on Capitalism and it's impact on fashion choices:-
I will argue on boys because that is ofcourse safer option, if you observe recent ad trends for example Veet Men hair removal cream starring Varun Dhawan in which he argues for clean chest without hair is better while asking what's your choice, now if through marketing companies establish that boys/Men with chest hair are worst in attractiveness everyone has to buy that product because it is natural to have hair on chest but one cannot sell a product then.
You can sell a product when you can establish that your body/culture is not normal and it needs to change.
As for the dress, very commonly worn these days by trendy youth. Go to any metro city, or an upscale college like Jindal and Ashoka. It’s very standard dress.
Big fuss over nothing.
Bro, it’s the traditional dress of Muslim women to cover their head, whereas Christmas is in winter and it’s too cold to wear such clothes.
