I need some realistic advice before I start throwing my CV into the void.
For context, I’ve done a couple of internships at T2 firms in disputes which I liked. In talks with one of them for a call-back. I also managed to intern with one of the T1 firms, albeit in a different practice area. I am at the top of my class and and have good co-curriculars as well.
I am trying to understand which firms (and if possible partner initials) should I target to maximise my chances of getting callbacks and a PPO.
I’m looking for Delhi NCR ideally, but I will happily brave the Mumbai locals if it means securing a job. I’m not blindly chasing only SAM / CAM / KCO / AZB /Tri either. I would love to work with firms like JSA, Saraf, Indus, Argus, DSK, B&P, etc. or frankly any firm that offers decent pay (80k plus) and I stand a decent chance of getting recruited. I can also do with lower pay for now, provided the firm is such that there are good prospects of laterally moving into a better paying position after 1-2 years.
Which firms, teams, or specific partners should I be targeting? Who is actually receptive to this kind of profile and has a track record of handing out PPOs?
Please drop names, my sanity (and my future) depends on it. Thanks!
If you are in an NLU - saraf does give out PPOs, you can even convert in a month. a friend got a PPO in one month (in the B&F team though.)
If not from an NLU - in CAM, GP seems to be the disputes hiring spearhead, her team does hire. Apart from her, Animesh gives PPOs too. Though CAM does have the ATP policy, but these 2 partners can be your best bet. DSK does hire excessively in disputes, but if you are trying to get in through a one-intern-convert-PPO thing, DSK does not do that. They would want you to intern for a fair bit of time and only hire if you are in your final year. They do give call backs though if you perform well, and give you an advantage in their Day-Z process. AZB lit is known for being highly concentrated and non-hiring. A girl from NLUJ did not convert her assessment so you know how bad it is. Tri is very specific. Please try and intern asap and get a call back. You 80% might convert. also pls dont go to B&P, very toxic. can try wadia if nothing works out, their hiring goes on well after graduation also afaik
(this is all a mumbai specific reply - im sorry I do not really have a fair idea of delhi scene, though ive heard from friends the firms in delhi are a bit lenient on the 4th/5th year hirings and not as strict as mumbai, where tier 1 firms mostly stop giving out PPOs after 8th sem. im a non-lit person so this is something ive heard from my disputes friends. hope this helps man and atb your profile is really nice :) never doubt and keep pushing!!! your sanity SHOULD not depend on these measly firms. a job is a job, not your life. )
