Attendance, projects, internships, placements and exams - how cruel the world is that it only demands you improve yourself everyday ! How unfair - none of the previous batches has to do any of this- they were all just given law degrees for watching Netflix and laying about near the lake !
I’m not saying - do hunger strike for real. I’m saying - behave with a bit of integrity. Don’t inflate everything you do and are for social media likes. Going six hours without food isn’t a hunger strike, it’s barely even a diet. There was a world before you where people would die doing this- it used to move people because that’s how much someone cared about an issue. It used to compel the goodness in people. Have a little goddamn shame and stop smelling your own farts and calling it perfume.
This even happened during those rubbish Palestine protests where there was “rotating hunger strike” in places like Princeton - students were taking shifts being on strike- ha! If you’re convinced there’s a genocide and all you’re going to do about it is stagger your meals a bit - that’s how little you can be arsed- leave alone convincing anyone else - you don’t seem convinced yourself!
You people are either stupid or malicious to say that they fastened during sleeping hours. Obviously the fast was during office hours. 6 hours is not as easy as you think. Some people did not drink water. Maybe it sounds easy to you, but it was just a small, symbolic gesture of support, amidst the pressure of studies, moots etc.
What have you people down to support the movement? Or are all of you BJP supporters?
If going six hours without food or water is described as difficult - I really don’t know what to say. Housewives across the country fast longer for superstitious beliefs everyday. Most people don’t live lives where they’re eating every two three hours - they actually have work to do. You’ve been living a remarkably coddled life if this feels like a sacrifice to you. And you should be able embarrassed.
I’m so sick of this private school kid mentality that has infected NLU students since at least the pandemic. You don’t - do - anything. You live in these isolated bubbles. Nearly all of you hate the native population around you and your clinics are non functional cause you don’t try to help anyone.
At least earlier batches were self interested but motivated to do something exceptional - win the Rhodes, win jessup, write a book, become a partner at a leading firm, become a judge somewhere, whatever. You all don’t do any of that even.
And you want more praise and attention than anyone else- for what ? Skipping evening chai and doing the bare minimum by turning up to classes - it is exhausting. Check your effing privilege. Stop soaking up all the energy in the room. There are actually people starving in delhi. There are actually kids no older than you who are getting arrested and standing up to the man.
This Nalsar stuff is a sad pathetic showing and it’s rightly getting panned. You all are behaving life fools.
At least those students who are focused on academic excellence are being honest - they want material success and they’re working hard for it. The wannabe Nalsar activist is fundamentally a dishonest person- she doesnt want to do anything that actually inconveniences her in the slightest- but she believes like tinker bell she will die without applause and she’s earned other people’s respect and attention because she bothers to spout off the latest trendy political talking point.
At least actors cultivate a skill - they’re obvious is their need for public attention and approval but they earn it by doing something remarkable. You’re not even actors - this is just a sickness, and a good society would absolutely mock you every chance you get to shame you into being more productive citizens of the country.
What’s more you’ve fundamentally embarrassed the institution- Nalsar was never a university with radical active student politics - but it was always a university that was taken seriously because its students were interested in becoming good lawyers and would try to do that everyday. You’ve painted the university as a fundamentally unserious sort of place because of your ignorance.
And this is how institutions die- look at the number of things your alumni batches did to improve the university, the public lecture series, the Moots they organised , the IV, the film festivals ? The idia stuff - those students understood where they could be impactful and worked to leave the place better than they found it. These guys aren’t interested in any of that - that takes work. They demand you applaud them for having a late lunch and attending classes. Jesus Christ get a grip.
Most days of the week I and my colleagues go without either a breakfast or a lunch - we might put off some weight gain but I’d be hard pressed to say any of us are really hungry due to the missed meal. And we’re old fogies in our mid thirties- not young people in teens / early twenties.
I talk to cab drivers - most of them have one meal a day - maybe two on a good day- and they do physically demanding labour. You did what ? Missed lunch and had an early supper? Please google hunger strike. The ignorance is astounding.
Most people don’t need or have 3 meals a day. If you were born less privileged or if you were a farmer or a blue collar worker today - you would have a heavy breakfast and work through lunch and have a light supper. You can actually look it up - the national average is about 2.5 meals a day - that means at least half the country has less than 2.5 meals a day.
Many people do intermittent fasting where they go 8 hours without food.
When you start working - you will be doing so much you will eventually have a day where you miss lunch or forget to drink water or both- this is just something that’s barely an inconvenience to humans let alone teens and young adults who are in their peak.
To call missing a meal a hunger strike is so ridiculously over the top, I have to wonder if you’re trolling or if this is a psy op by the other side. Honestly shameful. And to then posture as if this is serious political activism- rather than a bid for attention…. Let’s just say I was very encouraged by what happened in delhi this last month about the future of the country and very discouraged by what happened in shamirpet. Just brought back to the ground I suppose.
