The Vice Chancellor of Jindal Global Law School held a faculty meeting with the law school on March 2026, whose edited recordings had been recently leaked on Instagram and Twitter but have since been deleted and/or taken down. Toward the end of this meeting during Q&A, one of the senior-most faculty members in the humanities side had posed a direct question to the VC about whether JGLS is undergoing a "financial crisis" as faculty were being continuously being deprived of services contractually provided to them by the university, new faculty were not provided housing accommodation by the university, salary increments were low, free internet services were withdrawn, all university exams have been shifted to remote mode (no handwritten and physical on-campus exams) and how HR seemed to be manipulating payslips/tax related documents. In the recordings, the VC took offense to the question and said that the faculty were provided too many privileges that are being rightly withdrawn and that no other university abroad offers such privileges. He obviously did not address the concerns (the elephant in the room). Beating around the bush, he targeted the senior faculty, a minority, who raised her grievance in front of hundreds of other faculty members and said that in case any of you are unhappy with the university for any reason, you are free to leave. He said that "we" do not want unhappy faculty in this institution. In fact if a faculty wishes to resign today, he is happy to have HR waive the notice period for them and help them step out tomorrow. Is this how the leader of India's supposed number one law school should be treating his fellow faculty? Is there any space in the law school to voice one's grievances?

Are the recordings still available? Whoever leaked it should have leaked it to WikiLeaks, rather than these social media platforms.

To the question itself, I don’t think that Jindal is going through a financial crisis. On the contrary, they are making a lot of money. The question is whether this is being allocated for faculty and student welfare, or whether the money is being diverted to Jindal Steel. In other words, whether JGLS is being treated as a subsidiary of Jindal steel, rather than a nonprofit University.

In a prominent sarkari University, a new faculty with an NLU Undergrad and NLU PhD (not that it matters much) asked a few sharp questions in a meeting. That person was quietly removed as they were contractual.

There is a time and place for everything, including dissent and questions.

I would be careful if I was CRK. DJ too. If you bring faculty down, they can also bring you down along with them. Today JGLS is pro-BJP. But do you want us to write to RW sites like OpIndia or PGurus and expose who once made Jindal a Congress bastion? Who introduced Judith Butler in the syllabus?

These RW sites are no fans of JGLS and have attacked JGLS even after the university became pro-BJP. Although they will not attack Naveen Jindal or his companies now that he has switched, they don’t care about JGLS or CRK or DJ. Remember that.

Amitification of Jindal is underway. They gave a lot of facilities, benefits and higher than market salaries to faculty when they were new and needed to build their brand. Now that their brand has already been built, they would rather spend money on other things rather than on faculty. Faculty is being seen as easily replaceable, a cost-centre to be optimised, rather than a core part of the educational environment. Sad!

True and well said. Very few good faculty from older generations are there now. Those still there are people who need to be in Delhi for personal reasons and still see Jindal as a better option than NLUD, Munjal, Bennett etc. But if NLUD gets an NLU alum as VC like Sudhir and does a mass recruitment drive of NLU alumni faculty, then these people will quit and no one will be left except DJ.
