New WB govt pushing for IIT status for IIEST Kolkata and IoE status for Jadavpur University (was granted earlier but declined by TMC govt)

The cancellation of the invitations to Dhankar and J Sai Deepak, along with the persistent anti-BJP stance of the students, will come back to haunt NUJS.

Ironically, the TMC did nothing for NUJS and did everything to destroy it. While one of the gang leaders of anti-CAA protests is presently working for a pro-Modi law firm.

So where did all this left wing/liberal posturing ultimately take us??? Was it really necessary to antagonise the BJP?

I really don’t know why the moderator marked this post as trollish. I really wish the moderator set aside his ideology and look at things neutrally. If students of a certain university consistently oppose a political party, do you really expect that political party to have sympathy towards that university?

NUJS got 4.55 crores this year in the WB budget. Interestingly, the Higher Education Dept has requested CAG to audit all state universities and include grant in aid colleges too. Ofc NUJS comes under the State Law Dept. Why isn't the SJA demanding a forensic audit for the 2011 to 2026 period?

So WBNUJS has to be happy with the crumbs - ₹4.55 crores. A good apartment in Mumbai / Bangalore costs more, and people are buying.

NUJS had got the same last year too. The money never reached the university. Maybe it got lost in NKC's shenanigans.

Jadavpur U (another state university) gets ₹250 crores from the state government, in addition to ₹1000 crores from the central government, while WBNUJS (a state university as well) gets a meagre ₹4.55 crores (less than the price of an upper-middle-class apartment). At this rate, WBNUJS will be better off if it is subsumed within Jadavpur U as its Law School.

Jadavpur charges 100 rupees per year from a student and hence needs the money. NUJS charges 4.5 lakhs.

Good suggestion. Why not? Their Salt Campus is a hop away from NUJS. Also it is much larger. And JU has so many depts and much larger than NUJS. So let's not compare apples and oranges. Just because we have some worthies as Chancellor, EC members etc although despite their presence and apparently active participation we still get scams galore and attract only the perpetrating kinds as VC, teach etc.....so really let's float back to earth.

A JU alum in the US ranks second after Musk as one of the highest paid CEOs. His annual payout is multiples of what JU will receive from central and state govts over the next 5 yrs. Of course it is a different matter why the wildly successful and rich JU alumni have not donated generously commensurate with their historical pile. But that's the case for most Indian institutions.

But the point is that Noojies need to get off from their high horses and smell...whatever brings them back to reality.

The campus stays the same, while NUJS receives more funds and it becomes an IoE. NUJS could also receive more parcels of land. There is a plot belonging to JU just next to the campus.

So long as students keep relying upon the largesse handed down by the admin and faculty, they will never be able to push for anything. The students are very much complicit and enablers of this mess, not the victims that they like to portray themselves.

What is so great about NUJS that students think they are better than JU??? There is one senior NUJS prof who can barely spell. His gems of "scholarship" have been circulated on old LI posts. On the other hand, multiple JU profs have won the Bhatnagar prize. When it comes to the social sciences and economics, JU profs are far superior. The alumni of JU are also more established: STEM alumni are doing very well in the US, while arts alumni are in teaching positions in top universities everywhere. If you look at Rhodes scholarships, JU is way ahead. And the campus is massive and located in South Cal. No wonder JU was declared as one of only 10 public universities that are Institution of Eminence (different matter that Mamata declined the status because of her petty political reasons).

Lastly, the students of JU are genuine progressive activists, not fakers like at NUJS.

So yes, please do merge NUJS into JU and improve the abysmal academic standards of NUJS.
