ELP has always been tax heavy since its founding. And some of the partners you mentioned left quite long back. Don't create something from nothing
Much more than your imagination, which is pretty wild.
What about the employment team? How is the employment team in the firm?
โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ. the new partner โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ
Their LinkedIn posts indicate otherwise. They always keep posting about big deals.
Re your last line, Ravishekhar Nair also left yesterday
Is he still handling competition matters in his new firm?
Not sure theyโ€™ll make it to their 25th anniversary
Do tell. Whats going on? Big moves? Foreign Law Firm? Merger? Split?
I heard the Trade Law team is going to join some foreign law firm. WTF
Simply stepping into the shoes does not make one worthy of shoes. Written for someone in Max Towers cabin
Do not say anything here about "The Legend"

Say it on his face ๐Ÿ˜ˆ in the big cabin
You mean berger tower? The biggest cabin in berger tower
Call a rich man broke, he will laugh

Call a genius dumb, he will laugh too

Remember, it is only offensive if it is true
What IS happening? I'm in ELP and even I don't know what you are doing about

Unless you are talking about being absolute misers with pay
Come on man your paycheck is also 1/5th of cam/sam. Didnt you know this already?
Nah, I moved from LKS to ELP last year, and got a meagre increament at ELP. As a matter of fact, my friends at LKS are getting paid more than me.
Yes, it is unfortunate, but the bar is that low for people in Indian law firms. A lot of people would settle for less pay just to have some peace of mind. Toxic team ages a person 10 yrs in 1 yr, the harm done to health is not worth it in the long run.
Here comes the โ€œvibesโ€ folkโ€ฆOh pleaseโ€ฆ
Non toxic my ass. Cutting leaves without informing people, reducing wfh, complete lack if transparency and total dictatorial vibes.
Seems like you got short end of the stick. It's the not the norm.
Its even better than a chamber, what's your point? They are shit with bonuses and raises considering what they bill. Other than last year everyone's been unhappy for a long time.
For sure, the billing and salaries do not match up at ALL. I dont see that changing with whats happening right now either.
Nope I work in LKS and my roomie in ELP. I can assure you my pay check is well above his. If you include bonus then no competition.
Junior folks will not know whats going on because the senior folks themselves do not know yet what they are going to do
There was a potential merger with a tax advisory firm (non law) which seems to have fizzled out.
Is the office still the same railway station one?
Really? Zia? You think she will give room to Suhail and team?

Someone spill more on this
I'd be surprised. Why merge when you can easily poach those that are actually valuable. ELP pays 50% what AZB does anyway.
All I know is they better be ready to offer better terms and salaries. ELP is far behind the market standard and they need to rectify this if they want to retain talent and grow.
Iโ€™ve heard their cap marks is also flopping. When I was interning there were a lot of associates now they have all left. PA, Counsel, SA, and juniors. I was gonna ask for callback but whatโ€™s the point now. Even Mumbai cap marks partner left. Thereโ€™s only 1 now
Looks like they will split. Bulk practice of Tax will go merge with a tax advisory firm. The remainder will set up a new firm. Sad to see what has happened to what could have been one of the biggest new age firms.
Books are in a very bad state. They dont have any other option.
How does merging with a much smaller brand help a law firm?
Yes.

Funny thing is the industry knows but no communication from the top guys to the people working in the firm lol
That's just the leadership's spineless behaviour. Also, the very reason why the firm has met its death. Well deserved to be honest.
Yes and associates internally decided not to join and looking for options in law firms
Good for themโ€ฆall the best folks. The market out there is brutal and I pray that you all land comfortably.
Also, if you wouldn't have forced RS out before time...then maybe he would have cleaned the house himself.
Nankani became senior and was first to leave. And I have never bought the official line on why Rohan left. So that should answer.
What was the official reason for Rohan da leaving?
He was ill or someone in his close family was ill and the other Partners used his apparent 'unavailability' to flip the script. Sort of forced him to retire. Not sure how accurate this version is but this is what I have heard a few times.
No one is fighting. All of them are making a big buck on this. #cahoots
Selling the brand for <20Cr reeks of people desperate to squeeze every last drop out before they are relegated to irrelevance.

If anything Rohan and the scores of partners built the firm not the man who called ELP โ€œmy firmโ€.
20 Crores!!! Unbelievable!!! I think it would have been better for the partners to move to law firms with teams than a boutique tax firm, which is also flexing only because of foreign tie up.
Just 20CR? That is the value of what we do and where we work? All the hard work and hours the top guys sucked from us for all these years * multiple batches, and its just 20 Cr? We're not even worth 1/5th of SAM/CAM/AZB?
No, they are selling themselves for 200 Crores. Thatโ€™s what Dhruva is offering
Which is the tax firm they are merging with? DA or TS or TC ?
Who's TC? Tax Compaas? Too small and largely Bangalore based. TS is only deal focussed, everything else is supporting deals. DA mostly.
Tax team is merging with Dhruva Advisors and rest of them are on their own. What an inglorious death to the firm
AZB might go down the ELP way once Jia and the old guard leave. Most Indian law firms dont give any importance to a long-term succession plan.
Sad indeed! If Suhail had stepped aside, as the economics would have suggested he should have, to leaders in the tax team to continue RSโ€™ legacy This would not have been the path for ELP.
As reported by TS on LinkedIn, DA and ELP is creating a new law firm. So all your worries end.
Essentially Sanjay and Rohit have successfully pushed out all the original founders from ELP's fold. Unlikely that this new thing will thrive with this leadership
Rohit Jain seems to have bought the 12th floor of the Mafatlal centre and the new firm after merger will be sitting there
Sujjain Talwarโ€™s father started Talwar Thakore
Have you heard of a law firm called TTA? Suresh Talwar is one of its Co-Founders. His son Sujjain Talwar is one of the Co-Founders of ELP. We are hoping that Sujjain Sir will rescue us and take all of us to TTA.
One lawyer is going to 3L. One had quit earlier to do an LLM. The rest will go to LKS.
Any idea if LKS is matching the ELP pay? If that's the case, LKS really has to compensate the existing attorneys well, to maintain parity and fairness.
That's unfair to the existing loyal retainers of LKS.
Cynergy is the new law firm's name? Good heavens!
I hope my team quits ELP and goes too. All these guys do is cut bonuses and feed shit snacks.
I heard the labour practice was going to go solo again.
no one is coming for you 6 figure bonus lil bro, you'll be fine.
Commercial court and ordinary civil suit, I think.
It came out at the townhall yesterday that a term sheet has been signed. It may be non-binding, but my 60% withheld bonus has fallen due. Please pay up NOW!
Disappointing that most of the firm was officially informed through a taxsutra update, rather than a townhall, or an all teams meet. Says a lot about how things are internally managed.
It doesn't look like the Sword will take us to TTA. Maybe our Mitra (the fittest and most decent lawyer at ELP) will take all of us to the law firm he CAMe from?
Why did he come back at all?! Yashojit needs to go back to CAM!
SAN COME FROM ORIGINAL ID BRO

Fight from the front lines XD

The lack of clear communication has been felt not just by the younger associates but even by the non-equity partners in the very meeting you have alluded to. There has been no concrete plan communicated. I hope this is rectified soon because it is not very healthy.
Meanwhile the MP is busy organizing poojas and high teas wtf. 1 gol gappa = 1 bonus
Ok buddy. team members are on a retainer (as are you) so no one is partnering with CAs. But pop off with your โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ take I guess. Definitely double down, that's going to be even better
This is an Irrational, insensitive, and uninformed comment.

The Trade team includes qualified CAs as well. Welcome emails are sent for freshers too. Please don't spread misinformation or unnecessary negativity, โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ. (#iknowyou)
You need to get rid of this snobbish, elitist mindset. Below the belt comment.

Admin@
This is an elitist comment and should be reported immediately. People who believe they are inherently superior simply because they feel entitled to be have no place in any professional firm. Such attitudes are divisive, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable
How shameful. While the MP cavorts for 3 weeks in the US, the support team that has been with the firm through its entire duration are worried about their livelihoods. How callous.
Nothing going to happen. ELP will get platinum treatment and the POSHers of the firm going to go independent
Nope. NS has been at similar place to RJ even during RPS days. But you're right about core strengths of both.
Heard that practices other than tax and trade moving to CAM.
Heard the Trade team is losing clients because of this chaos. Beautiful karma. Gorgeous.
Thats complete bs. Pray tell which client has been โ€œlostโ€?
Lots of rumours floating around. Everyone is waiting for the Diwali bonus before revealing their hand.
Why not? Do it. No one stops you. And if you don't do it, its just a throw away comment meant to derogate the firm.
Problem kya hai bhai? Tax and trade are areas of law that need support from CAs sometimes. What do you want us to do now? Such a whiny comment
This is really apt in ELPโ€™s case. The way in which Rohan Bhai dealt with the situation at hand vis-a-vis the current partnership. Itโ€™s clear now that ELP was his baby, and nobody else was able to nurture it the way he did.
RPS never had to deal with this kind of situation.
And that law statutorily permits everyone to practice. Shows the current level!
Some institutions are remembered not for how they ended, but for the people they shaped. ELP will always be one of them. Happy 25th ELP. Love you from the bottom of my ๐Ÿ’œ
Today was ELP's townhall.

Can someone spill the beans?
alright, so any comments on todays "townhall?"

ill go first:

too late, too little clarity. tbh they only gave a reaction because of the pressure created by this thread and media scoops.
Will someone please tell us what the work culture at Dhruva advisors is going to be like? What are their policies as regards leave, wfh etc? If anyone knows please let us know as this will be an important deciding factor for many!
